| Oh sweet jeebus. Lighter than the 8speed. Single-cable system. Reporters couldn't tell which gear was direct-drive. I've been sitting in that spot where Rohloff is too much, Alfine 8 not enough. This could sway me. |

| Wasn't it something over a year between learning of the Alfine hubs and being able to actually buy them? I hope this is available sooner, and not just to NAHBS builders. |

Yeah, I know but I would want an Alflie 11 if I were to go that route, if not a Rohloff |

| You can't retrofit a belt drive though. The belt doesn't split, so your chainstay has to. |

If you look at the picture very closely, you'll see that the droput is split, and the bolt-on plate holds that end of the frame together. So, getting the belt off is as easy as taking two allen bolts out and pulling your seat stay and chain stay apart a bit. |

In related news, Shimano's "Sora" group offers most of the range, higher mechanical efficiency, and an even lower price! |

The projected prices for the US are in the $420 range. It sounds like 85% of a Rohloff for about 40% of the price, and much nicer than the Alfine 8sp.

but have they improved that groupo so that the old joke "I'm so Sora about the groupo your new bike came with" is no longer relevant? |

nothing in that vernacular lump of words could be misconstrued as a joke. |
