Strangely enough, that was the ferry I was thinking of taking. i've got a 10:20 conflict, but it'll be done by 11:30, and I figured i'd just mosey downtown and pick up whatever was next on the ferry schedule.

Left camp a little late, but caught Scott, Megan, Garth and Mike? at the Hood Canal bridge, had BBQ in Port Gamble. Took the Kingston ferry, interurban, then home.

Saw a boomer at the hood canal bridge, apparently the police did *not* want me to stop on the bridge to assess my front wheel, so we kept going until we crossed, and then got some photos of the sub heading through.

Great route, great food, great people. I have no memory what exactly we were talking about around the fire, but I haven't laughed that hard for that long in a while.
Today was a beautiful day of sunny roads and water and mountain views, punctuated by a team-time-trial where Ben, Matthew and I hauled ass and made the 6:40 ferry out of Bremerton.

Lisa Marie's knee blew out in Quilcene - she wasn't going anywhere. So Lazer Heather, Garth, his visiting friend Michael and I rode out via Port Gamble. Tfitz caught us at the Hood Canal Bridge. Got home and after a quick shower got in my car and drove BACK to rescue the stranded Portillios - where I see Fred disembarking the 830 Edmonds ferry I was about to board.
Long day. Great time. Fantastic route. The gravel quarry riding was twice as excellent as it was the first time.

Was riding back with TicToc and Eric, and blew out a spoke coming into the Hood Canal Bridge. Rode down the bridge, and decided we were gonna stop mid-way to take a closer look at the wheel, but we failed to notice ZERO cars on the bridge after a little bit. Looked up, and hey! boat's coming! What's that thing in the middle?
1)Riding on the Canal bridge with no cars is actually pretty awesome
2)Not pictured are 2 support vessels, each basically big cargo ships, that were flanking the sub all the way to the bridge. Not just kinda close to it, but almost right on top of it. It was kinda cool to see three ships maybe 20 feet apart going about 20kts until the bridge.
3)Matt, is that a nuke sub? I guessed it was because the conning tower is so far forward.

The escort ships mean it was a nuke sub - I've been told they actually have deep steel shield plates to protect the sub from attacks from land when it's vulnerable in the canal.

But Jimmy's correct: fairwater planes on the sail means it's OHIO class. I know which particular boat it was, but I can't say which because that'd be discussing ship movements.
