I just got back from a trip to Denver where I had one of my most memorable experiences on a bike. A coworker there took me out on a Denver Cruisers ride (http://www.denvercruiserride.com/). It was incredible! Part critical mass, part party, all fun! (tho Denverites have appear to have some mad aversion to helmets) Participants meet up at various pubs around town, costume themes are suggested (this ride was 'bubble wrap, cardboard, and duck tape) then at a given time all proceed to a common meeting point. Gaggles of cyclist of all sorts take to the streets with the intent of coexisting with traffic, rocking out along the way. Once at the central meeting place it's a party with something called the 'Circle of Death' where riders ride around in a circle in close proximity, looks like a mosh pit on bikes, but wasn't as bad as it looked as speeds were pretty low. Fairly adult oriented in nature, and there was definitely an alcohol presence, but just about everyone seemed to be safe. This happens in Denver every Wed in the summer, I'm going back again next week (Tour de France theme).
That's a pretty tall order, but does Seattle have anything like this or any rides that are themed and have this kind of party element? I'd love to see something like this here, it would seem that Seattle's bike culture could certainly support this kind of thing.
Thanks in advance.

Man. Best troll or BEST TROLL ever? This is like the meta troll, because I think he's legit.
Hey new guy shut up and show up at Westlake Center at 7pm every single Thursday - rain, snow or shine, come hell or highwater we ride. We leave at 730 sharp. We are not fast but you will not catch up unless you know someone who will text you the destination, and even then it's dodgy. Don't roll up to WLC at 7:31 and be surprised nobody's there. Don't ask where we're going ahead of time because we won't know, or we won't tell you, or both. Bring funeral and beer money. Leave your dignity. You'll have fun. Everyone does.
Welcome to .83. |

Friendly tip: Smile and introduce yourself to the first dozen people you meet when you show up. Hand them a beer while doing so if you're feeling generous. Obviously being super loud idiot dude is frowned upon, but being the shy quiet new guy who sits on the edge doesn't really work out so well either so... yeah. Say hello.
Last thing - we have a few rules. Familiarize yourself with them. |

Ah, thanks everyone for the warm welcome. "Meta-troll" huh, dont know about that, but it would make a good band name (and possibly my new screenname).
Sounds like this is the right place, I like the mix of beer references with non-dumbfuckery in the rules, for when I'm concerned about following rules.
I'll have to check out the Thursday night ride. Looks like the next one I'll be around for is 7/5.

We only break that rule out for people who are wontonly abusing it, or are irritating. You get some grace posts starting out.

Some nights, after drinking too much, I *feel* like the EMP.
And I call dibs on dressing up like a Seattle cyclist. |
