The poster can't remember if he has double chainrings with 5spd rear, or triple chainrings with a 6spd rear on this $500 Peugot complete with touch-up paint and new tires.

A woman brought a bike into my shop today with a rusty chain from a Schwinn Varsity, a brand new 7 speed cassette on a used rear wheel, a 9 speed LX crank, 8 Speed Alivio shifters and a vintage 1989 Shimano Deore rear derailleur.

OBVIOUSLY a chop shop bike. That or some jackass doesn't even have a clue. Nice repair job for me, but I think the bike was stolen. It was a Red Gary Fisher from the mid 1990s

Probably about one out of every three tandems posted has one of my favorite spelling mistakes:

Few typos so eloquently describe the typist...

ahh, the "ex-wife" special. These pop up so often, it is hilarious. It is what I tell people who want a tandem, as both of how to get one and as a potential warning.

There is a reason they're known as "divorce cycles".

This one pops up on craigslist a lot:
http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/bik/350950325.html

I love it because it's such a clear example of chinese design copying gone wrong: "BOB trailers are popular. 2 wheel trailers seem to be popular. Let's combine them". They probably made dozens or hundreds without actually testing one.

Don't ask the seller what happens when you try to turn using this trailer, he gets angry with you.

it needs better wheels and a longer hitch arm, but otherwise I like how it's wider than the BOB.

Think about what happens when you take a two wheeled BOB around a corner. The BOB hitch holds the trailer in the same plane as the bike.

I sent him an email politely asking what happens when you try to turn the bike when pulling this trailer. Can't wait to see what he says...

It really irritates me when people use the words groupo, grupo, gruppo or whatever to describe a component group, especially when said group is of japanese manufacture. In any case it makes the person using it sound like a dumb poseur.

a pretty fair price for the bike, though. We had the nicest Olmo come in today, with an all-blue Italian group.

Gali components.

Very nice OLMO indeed. The guy did not know what he had. The bike was easily worth 5K. He got "better" wheels at Gregg's last year and they kept his old blue wheels! Gali was a very good (same quality) copy of Campagnolo Super Record. Other brands that copied Campy include Modolo (similar), Zeus (nearly identical), Ofmega (poor man's Campi), and others.

Here is the crank:

His was blue. He also had a matching blue Cinelli stem!

the brakes too. Sometimes I hate the "Cycling is the new Golf" crowd, purely out of jealousy.

I'm not sure I can figure out where on the downtube to mount these levers...

seriously. This is some insane beautiful dream of a bike, wrought by countless hours of garage work. Or some douche bought it from Taiwan.

My bike was stolem just a few hours ago from my riends house who lives close to the birk gilman. It's a 58cm grey road bike. It doesn't hve a name or make becaue i put it together myself. It also has GOLD handlebar tape. The person riding it will likely be too shor for it and won't be wearing the right shoes. The cleats are speedplay. If you think you see my bike please call me because I love hat bike. Thsnkd and keep your eyes open.
