What's the best (i.e., most responsible way) of getting rid of (unrepairable) tubes, so that vegan kids can turn them into hammocks, etc.?

Same question with tires. Too worn to second-hand in good conscience. I've always just thrown them away, but I'm guessing there's something else I should be doing with them.

The REI bike shop takes tubes, and then eventually SoDo based Alchemy Goods will come collect.

Not sure about tires.

I've decided the best way to recycle tubes and tires is to simply beat Joe with them until they either disintegrate, or Joe shuts the hell up.

Guess what happens first.

Thanks for the info on the tubes, ksep. I'll do that.

I've decided to burn the tires on the next .83 campfire/ridefire.

Last time I asked this question, someone claimed Les Schwab would take the tires.

I'm too lazy to have actually determined whether this is true.

R&E will take the tires. They have someone who picks them up to make baskets, hammocks, et al.

The transfer station in Fremont/Wallingford will take tires, but do you have to pay? Not sure about that one.

I think almost every bike shop in town does this.
