I know this has been discussed before, but I'm looking for updated information on trail closures, construction, etc...

I'm hoping to ride my road bicycle (the one with 23c tires) from Seattle to Roslyn over Snoqualmie Pass. I found this http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4052142 route in another thread and it looks pretty good, but I'm curious about the turn-by-turn, and whether it involves the Iron Horse trail (which I don't think will be passable on the bike I'm riding). I'll probably take 202 out to North Bend rather than the Cedar River route as well. Obviously I'd like to avoid riding on I-90 as much as possible, but if there's a wide shoulder it's fine, and I'd rather ride on the freeway than take a circuitous route that involves hella climbing, as I'll probably be a bit tired by the time I reach the pass.

Advice? Dos or don'ts? Straight-up routes? I'm going to be leaving the Central District around 10 or 11AM on Friday if anyone wants to accompany for the first half or so of the ride as well. (Family reunion in Roslyn; sorry, y'all aren't invited.)

The route you posted looks like it does involve the IHT a fair bit. There are also a couple of other forestry roads which aren't paved. I think there is also a part of that Cedar River trail that is now closed because it is a protected watershed.

I think the long and short of it is that this will either involve a) a lot of riding on the Freeway, or b) a mountain bike.

If I were going to do this on a road bike I think I would try something like Using the I-90 trail from Seattle through Issaquah. Get on I-90 at East Sunset Way and get off at High Point. Take a left under the freeway and take High Point into Preston. Take the Preston-Snoqualmie trail (paved) until it dumps you down onto the road. Take the Fall City road to, amazingly, Fall City. Get on 202 and take that to North Bend. From North Bend it is back on the freeway. You can get off again at Ashell Curtis and take the old highway. I am pretty sure that is paved. It is pretty and off the freeway, but the last part has a couple of nasty switchbacks. No way you were going to get out of doing some climbing though. That will take you to Hyak. I don't know much about the route from Hyak to Roslyn though.

I am thinking about riding back from camping south of Ellensburg this weekend. But I will be taking my mountain bike for that. All the good trails over the pass are gravel. From Seattle it would be I-90 trail-I2P-P2S-SVT-IHT. Most of the gravel stuff isn't bad. If you had a good CX bike you might be able to take it, but the 23mm tires is a bit small for that much gravel riding.

Good luck.

That gmap you posted summits via tinkham road / FS-58. I have driven down that to at least exit 47. The upper section is paved at the pass. I'm not sure where gravel starts/stops though.

Tinkham road is mostly all dirt from just off freeway at exit 42 all the way to the bridge that re-crosses the river at exit 47, where it is pavement across freeway and up to pass on old road there.
