What low security lock could you recommend to me? Set a minimum recommendation bar of where you'll have sympathy for me if the bike gets jacked. Just say u-lock if you think a cable lock won't work. But boy a combination cable lock sure sounds nice to me...

Aluminum U-lock, so it at least looks secure?

I am most curious as to your s24o plans that would involve sleeping so separated from your bike that you need a lock. Could you lock just the frame and take the wheels with you to bed?

I've used just the lock bit of a Kyrptonite NY chain (essentially a tiny U-lock) and gone from a seat stay to a cora rack (or other rack or iron fence with small bar diameter). But that assumes you know you can find such a rack or fence, and that your stays are not obstructed with racks and such. If you want to borrow such a lock let me know.

edit: I guess you might want security skewers and the like, too.

I have a small coil lock, maybe by kryptonite with about 1/4" cable. It is light enough that I don't mind. It is 10.5 ounces, my mini ulock is 34 ounces so less than a third of the weight. If you want to go even lighter look at snowboard locks.

snowboard locks can be cut with an industrial pair of pliers. or beaten apart with a light hammering (light plastic casings). they're a slight deterrent more than any real security. go with a thicker bike specific coil cable.

I've been considering something like this for traveling solo, still really damn heavy at 43 ounces. But substatially lighter than my Kryp Fuggetaboutit beast at 80 ounces, ugh.

Why would you compromise weight at the lock? This would be a bigger question if the bike is wanted by others in parts you aren't familiar with.

mini u-lock w specialized key, but I guess any lock for sympathy. still remembered: http://quickrelease.tv/?p=327
