Looks like I will be driving, dropping by in the morning to help ferry gear should be no issue. There will be a dog onboard that can't really stay home, so if anyone takes serious exception to this speak up now.

Roscoe is better-behaved than most .83ers, I think that's alright.

The issue wasn't the dog once we got to camp, per se. It was trying to get the dog to realize she was cargo, and needed to sit still in the open sided trailer being used to tow her. We needed to stop at least a handful of times to chase her.

If the dog's being driven, it won't be nearly as big a deal.

When I was leaving the bike pile I realized my headset was at a 30 degree angle to my wheel. Doh!

This is why you listen to Uncle Andre and test out your bikes before a big ride.

A Friday morning prayer(ish thing):
May the day move quickly to bring unto us a beautiful weekend of bike camping. Amen.

I am so excited for this that I can barely contain myself! We ride in 25 hours!!!!!

25

It's okay; with a little arm pressure or really leaning into it, you can move it back into alignment!

Pack a rain jacket.

I appreciate all the .83 love for Roscoe, as does he. At this point it is unsure whether he and I will be attending, for reasons unrelated.

@ Nick
Yeah, past problems have been around actually bringing a dog bike riding. Transport by vehicle is much better. Not sure how much .83 camping you've done (I haven't been out much recentlly), but there will be very loud noises, lots of people food scattered about, etc. A long-line or clothesline with a leash running on it is a nice idea if you don't want him running free.

T minus 1 Days till NotBC8
Topic: Food, Drink, and Packing

Your bike is prepped. Your camp gear is ready. Your online stuff should arrive today. Your mother's day cards are mailed. Only one more sleepy and then it's the big day!!!

Let's work through the consumables.

Food
-Saturday Snacks: Pack something accessible and tasty for small stops.
-Saturday Lunch: Small Fryes (or whatever else you can find in Fall City), no packing needed.
-Saturday Dinner: Catering fell through, but, again, would you rather be self sufficient or dependent? No cook option could be as easy as buying a 2nd burger at Fall City to save for later, sandwiches, cold pizza, deli salad also canidates. Hot options include Tube Meat which is the old standard and easy to heat over flame. Freeze dried food works too if you want quick and easy. If you're more gourmet you can do foil packs or steaming pans of Fred food.
-Sunday Breakfast: COFFEE, water (pump/filter the night before), maybe some fruit and an energy bar. Get more substantial food back in civilization

Drink
-Road Sodas: Keep a few accessible, stock up at the start and resupply with cold ones at Fall City
-Water: Start with full bottles, resupply at Fall City, we'll be near camped near the river.
-Hard A: Easy to acquire after I-502, last chance is in the liquor store in Fall City.
-Beer: There will probably be a keg, but more is better, don't forget your vessel.
-Coffee: come prepared or be prepared to wait and beg.

Better get to the grocery store today if there is anything special/particular you want. Uwajimia has some great stuff so budget time to shop there before we roll out. I know I'll be looking for some hombao and korean sushi.

Packing
It's helpful (for me) to lay out all the gear I plan to bring. Double check that it fits in your allotted cargo space, be sure to have some additional storage space left available for food/beverages aquired on the way. Be prepared to shit can things you don't need.

Last Minute Gear
Below are the closing times for Friday at the following gear stores:
Second Ascent closes at 7pm
Outdoor Emporium closes 7pm
Recycled Cyles closes at 8pm
REI closes at 9pm
Fred Meyer closes at 11pm

Don't forget sun coverage, all ye white people.

Get some sunscreen for the road, and keep it handy for when you sweat it off.

Andre, thanks for all the great advice, but maybe you can help me with this: I can't find my Nalgene, where did I leave it?

Speaking of camping/biking breakfast foods, my favorite trick is making instant oatmeal inside the packet so you don't need to deal with cleaning an extra vessel in the morning.

I believe Jimmy told me about this last summer for long rides and self contained snacks:

take half empty peanut butter container, add honey, oats, chocolate chips, etc. stir. carry a spoon and get a bite here and there at stops. may also work as a breakfast spread on bread.

Well. Being that I live kinda close to the I-90 bridge, I was going to just meet you all there. But hell, if there's gonna be a van there at Uwajimaya to take some of my stuff for me....

I do this for every camping trip, it's the only time I eat oatmeal. The trick is to shake the packet up before you open it - otherwise all that delicious flavor powder gets stuck in the bottom corners.
