Wippermann tested a bunch of chains and declared themselves the winner.
The data is all summed up in these nice charts. Please enjoy.
Also, if you are looking to maximize skid points on your fixed gear tires, I just discovered that this forum has a handy chart for that too.

That would be really cool if it really didn't seem like just an ad. Are there any independant testing labs that make data like this public?

Yeah, but the test seems pretty simple and easy to control, my suspicion of experimenter bias is low. Also, it's telling me what I want to hear :)

the anal-retentive German magazines like TOUR have done tests reaching similar conclusions -- and their data match my experience exactly
A Wippermann 10sX will last for fucking ever (~6000 miles on my Rawland!) while being treated like shit, is incapable of rusting, and you won't be able to break one. After I got PJ Diddy on them he stopped breaking chains on every other MTB ride.
Campy chains are quieter and shift a little better, and last pretty long. High-end Shimano is up there too.
KMC chains are noisy and mediocre.
SRAM chains might as well be kleenex, they're total bullshit.
Any chain you assemble with a special pin is liable to break right there because you are not a chainmaking robot. Quicklinks are awesome and Wippermann makes the best ones.
