3 cheers for the Rain Shadow and everyone involved in planning and executing this ride.
Expectations were exceeded in every way.
Felt great to pedal the entire hill out of camp with all my gear and a wet tent fly.
Bon Jon pass was awesome and I'm still feeling the adrenaline from bombing down.
A++ would bike camp again, every weekend, for the rest of my life

Hooray for everyone! Thanks to all those who scouted, planned, navigated, flew battalion flags, set up tarps, fixed bikes, hauled kegs, handed out fireball, encouraged drug use, wore neon bodysuits, walkie talkied, boiled water, swung samurai swords, pooped, smiled, and provided great company. That was awesome!
It sounds like it rained more in Seattle than it did in Ben Country.

Woke up way less hung over than I should have been.
17 mph average pace, don't remember a goddamn thing from the time we turned onto Port Gamble Road until the time the group regrouped in Port Gamble. probably lucky I didn't run into anything or anyone.
the only thing I remember of the actual ride after turning onto Shine Rd. was getting off the bike to walk it down the big hill, as I could no longer pedal through anything that did not resemble a flat, straight line. and I remember stopping at two gates. by the time I got to the store at Larson Lake Rd., it was time to call it quits before I hurt someone.
I remember going wine-tasting with Scott and not being lucid enough to ask them to pour me a second glass. good wine, though. mostly just stood around until we got back in the car.

Thanks to all the riders that came out and were excited to be there.
Thanks to Ben for scouting and outlining another great adventure (and to Laura for watching Grey and letting Ben head to the woods). The route and destination were great. Thank you for the beer hookup Douglas. Thanks to the drivers for hauling beer, tarps, butts, trash, bags. Thanks Legs and Bike for carrying me over hill and dale.
My mental shift this year was to adopt the ride home as part of the adventure, even beyond that, the ride home is an extension of the adventure. Hat tips to the Jovi Bon Jon Pass crew: Andrew, Fred, Jessica, Kevin (Pigpen), Skinny Rob, and Stephen. We got wet going up the pass but it didn’t really rain on us from the pass all the way back to Winslow. We started rolling about 10:40 a.m. from above camp , summited Bon Jon Pass at ~12:30, had lunch in Quilcene (A++ Twana Road House) at 1:30-2:30, rode back through the Wahl Lake cutoff then Big Valley/Lemolo and made it back to Winslow to catch the 7:10 p.m. boat to Seattle.
No matter how hard you try, there is no way to eat The Whole Country, but it’s still great to eat as much as you can. It was great to experience as much as possible and then hear even more from other participants’ observations. So much LOL and WTF but it all makes sense in the context the shared experience. I’ll probably still be grinning ear-to-ear when I see you next.

The GPS lost battery power just after the Hood Canal Bridge on Sunday, but the route we took from camp to the Jovi Bon Jon Pass is here:

Oh, I also found half a rear light on Palo Alto road. If anyone wants to claim that, I will bring it Thursday.
That was great fun folks. I had a blast. Now tired and sore at work. Thanks to the 6:30 Bainbridge ferry crew. That was awesome blasting out there. I am glad the miricle tire held.

Thanks a lot to everyone for such a memorable weekend. I know I came without a tent but I was counting on you guys. Thanks to Dravis for giving me shelter.
It was the longest and toughest of rides for me, but I did manage to reach camp after all. The night was amazing, but I think I zoned out for a couple of hours after eating those shrooms(thanks to Fred) and found myself sitting next to the fire at 1 AM.
The ride back was a different story altogether. My right knee gave up on me and I had a hard time reaching the Kingston ferry. Thanks to Langston for giving me a ride home from Edmonds.
Did I have a great time? Yes
Will I do it again? Yes Yes

Mad props for pulling this off, I still can't believe you only started riding bikes 4 months ago.
Knee pain isn't a huge surprise considering the miles we did, but you might want to consider having someone properly fit you for your bike; if your knee is tracking poorly due to saddle position that could be a contributor. Philip at Counterbalance Cycles does a "quick fit" for $40 which made a world of difference for me. Just make sure you call ahead as they prefer you schedule it beforehand, and be prepared to purchase a new stem and/or seatpost if necessary to get everything properly aligned.

Hey matt, what do you want me to do with your .83 flag?
Aside from that, all other items I hauled out of there have been returned. I was kinda worried I lost something off the back, but hey, I don't secure my loads.
OOOHHHH! DROPPIN' LOADS!!!!!

That might be mine, fell off somewhere on the drive home. I also left my blue gravity water filter hanging by the main camp - anyone happen to pick that up?

Your filter made it home on my bike rack.

Good times.
In many ways my favorite Ben Country so far.
I have someone's Seahawks lighter... let me know if you're missing one (Jake, maybe? :) ) so I can get it back to you on Thursday.

My fenders have been ordered. It was fun tracking dirt all through the nice cafe and ferry, but not as fun in my apartment and having to clean up.

I learnt this lesson in the Thu ride couple of weeks back when we went to Ravenna park in the rain and got fenders installed first thing the next day.

I wonder how you even remember that. I didn't even know what pics were clicked until I saw them in the morning. :P

Thanks for the info Jason. I think its high time I get a proper fit done. Will check out Phillip sometime soon. Although I'm feeling better now and should be able to make it to this Thu ride. :)

No fenders crew. I was in the basement yesterday trying to shake some of the caked mud off the back of my jeans before washing them. Pretty sure my neighbors thought I shit myself.

No, leave the dirt on there. It will grind into your chain and bearings to work out all the old dirt from the last expedition.

I made a bit of an in a nutshell thing on bike adjustments that may not be as uncomfortable, from a few articles, 9th paragraph down. It now looks really confusing (unsubstantiated?), but there are some adjustments a rider can just try and see if it helps.
