Apparently one benefit of the wet weather this spring is that it's too wet to do the work they've been planning in Monte Cristo, so it's accessible at least through 2014.

Has anyone been up their recently? I gather there is a road for the construction equipment that bypasses the log bridge, but the road itself is shitty (big chunks of rock). So, skip that and take the old road/trail and cross on the log? Is the old road/trail okay for road bikes (with not-skinny tires), or do we need a MTB?

I was last up there in late summer 2012 just as the prep for the road construction was wrapping up

There was a 100-yard stretch of narrow rooty trail leading to the log bridge, and after the crossing there were a few 10-yard rock garden patches of riprap in the road where it crossed creeks

Otherwise it was even more stroller-friendly than the Ravenna creek trail (just with lotsa pinecones)

No need for a mtb

this is apparently the last post on monte cristo, so here we go. monte cristo apparently has a much more sordid history then previously thought:

Serving as justice of the peace wasn’t his only gig in town. Frederick Trump ran a Monte Cristo real estate office and a disreputable hotel.

“Prostitution was a sign of the times,” said David Cameron, a local historian who lives in Index. “With mining claims, there were a lot of single men.”
