What is up with the flickrs lately? Sometimes I can view them fine, sometimes it wants me to log in to Yahoo, and sometimes it just says page not found.

Click on Ajat's main set link. He has them hidden from general public viewing but if you click his hyperlink it let's your computer download some sort of cookie that is a temporary key to the hidden flickr set. Not sure if it will work if you are in Chrome's "incognito mode" or IE/Firefox equivalent

If it's cookie-based it will work in any browser's private/incognito mode as the cookies are kept in a separate jar for just that instance and deleted upon the instance's termination.
Some sites, like imgur, just provide content creators with specialized URLs to share which contain an "access key" as part of the query string to restrict access. AFAIK there's no way to prevent someone from brute-forcing that key/special URL, it's just typically not worth the effort to do so. Security through general laziness...
