Has anyone done this ? I'm thinking about doing a 3-4 day (3 nights) bike camping trip along this route, doing about 40 miles per day. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/223308

I only see a very crude route that doesn't seem to be really following any roads.
From Sequim, 5 years ago, I rode the Olympic Discovery Trail to Port Angeles and then just 101, along the south side of Lake Crescent, to the South Fork Hoh River on the other side of the peninsula. On the way back I rode close to that airport by the Quillayute Prarie from Forks. I had no problem with the route, esp with that button on both sides of the lake, but it was in May during the week and it was raining every other day. The bike had a trailer with a bunch of shit in it and I wasn't going that fast.
Klayowah (spelling?) by Sol Duc is a nice campsite, but I got there when it was closed to car traffic.

The plan is for it to be all on trails, but they aren't finished yet.

I totally missed that it was still under construction - that's too bad, although it still seems largely doable, maybe have to do a bit of on the ground looking around

Also itching to ride the ODT this summer/fall. Pretty sure the that whole trail is rideable, it will ultimately be paved the whole way so the under construction areas are still gravel/dirt but rideable (plus some shoulder riding around Pt. Angeles.)
I am pretty sure Sweeney just rode it with his ladyfriend so he should have an up-to-date report.
My big question is whether it is at all feasible to create a loop ride. I did find a route that some randonerds rode but now I can't find the link...

Blasdelf and some other folks had mapped/scouted an epic mostly dirt multi hundred mile ride out around the olympics. That one?

I think Maile and Archie did the full peninsula loop on ODT & roads a few years ago.
They are trompin' round the yourope land right now so you would need to contact them directly or just wait until they return and decide to pop into the forums.

Rode around the peninsula a couple of summers ago. I'll add a longer update with my route when I get back to town. In the meantime you can find pics on Facebook and the ride on Strava if you stalk my posts from 2013. ODT between Port Angeles and Sequim is excellent.
I think the biggest question is the section around Crescent Lake. That and a few other places might require riding on the shoulder of 101. But this does look like pretty cool route.

there's long been a complete trail along the north shore of Lake Crescent
there's also the Olympic Adventure Route that's singletrack and doubletrack between there and the Elwha river

If you take Rob's route, On the Whidby Island leg, I reccomend looking for ways to get off 525 and on to side roads. You'll add some distance and a fair amount of elevation, but you get off a high traffic 55 MPH freeway and in to esentially rural neighborhoods.

I'm still trying to decide if I want to take off a few days and get the full loop done or do an out-and-back (hitting the OAR route one way and the ODT the other for the Cresent Lake portion for some variation) which would only require 0-1 days of PTO. Either way, looking to do this in the next two months.

Having ridden Whidbey a number of times, Rob is right on. 525 is not a problem. East/south of Freeland, most of the diversions add a lot of miles. Bush Point/Smuggler's Cove is a reasonable alternate that doesn't add a lot of distance.
The main section of highway to avoid on Whidbey is the part of 20 between 525 and Coupeville. Little or no shoulder, and lots of truck traffic from the ferry. You aren't going to Coupeville, but for reference sake, Wanamaker Road to Fort Casey Road is my preferred route into Coupeville. Morris and Race also work, and are probably a better idea if it's windy; the area near Fort Casey gets a lot of wind.

I was in Sequim this weekend for a wedding and rode the Sequim-Port Angeles leg on Saturday morning/afternoon. It was awesome! There is a bridge out just west of Sequim, so I was diverted north to Old Olympic Highway, which was very smooth with a nice shoulder/bike lane. Would highly recommend. All Around Bicycles just off the trail in Sequim has free maps and were very nice.
Tons of Port-o-potties on the trail, but not water on that stretch. More recumbent trikes than I have ever seen before.
