not everything has to be documented and quantified

you've seen some firepits, and you'll ride to some more

it's nice to maintain a sense of mystery and plausible deniability

work to further that, maybe you can even find a new place to burn

How to find a new fire spot:
1. Go on a bicycle ride.
2. Get a little lost.
3. Get a little loster.
4. Stumble upon something great.
5. Tell stories about this great spot and lead a ride there.
6. Did you lead the ride there?
7. Did some OG's say they'd been there before? No? There you go!

I noticed they moved the Golden Gardens fire pits north a bit. Someone update the map!

Dan, here is the map. I think #dontblowupthespot can #shutthefuckup. That is the whole point of having a routes forum. This would be like someone asking for good bike camping spots and having people say "don't tell them because other people will go there." And seriously, who the hell is looking here besides us? We could make this map the background for the whole website and no one else would notice. It is a ludicrous idea and I hope that I never hear about it again.

re-edit to show a cat with fire spot locations.

I've been told by at least two separate local transportation reporters/writers "I lurk the forum to see what's going on ..."

Lurkers

Then again, this was pretty easy to find: Sekret fire pit map, shhhhh don't tell Ferd!

I was wondering if the map was actually going to show up again. I am just missing the Google map link for it. Just spotted one missing spot. I think if you just change the graphic and called it the hearth map then it will be more cryptic.

I don't care either way, just pointing out that plenty of people lurk here.

The tribal knowledge is what happens on the ride, not where the destination is. These spots aren't fun to go to because they are some secret location. They are fun because we go there together and have a great time. Who cares if people know we have fires are Carkeek or Seward. It means absolutely nothing unless they are out on the ride.

Did they post a map online telling people where the Freemont Firepit was? I am sure that is what got them shut down. The city cracks down hard on cartography.

Dan re-started this thread PRECISELY because I'd taken the ride to a 'secret' location that he didn't know existed, and was delighted by the experience

But asking for a map of illicit locations misses the point: you're not just potentially blowing up the spot, you're also spoiling your own first time

That doesn't make any sense. It is like saying "I looked at a map of Africa and it ruined my experience of being there." The joy is going to a place. The map means nothing unless you have already been there.

Yeah, but if everyone goes to the Africa and some inconsiderate people start doing stupid shit like rounding up the locals and putting them up for sale or trying to teach them the good word of the lord and savior white Jesus, it kinda ruins it for the other people who just like to go hang out there from time to time.

We can't control who goes there and does things, but we can limit the exposure for rando's specifically searching for places to go do stupid things.

Please see: the dumpster diving locale map.

while we're posting maps can someone posts exactly where everyone has been catching salmon in Puget sound? I keep asking the guys at the dock but for some reason they're real tight lipped about the good spots.

This is like razor blades in apples guys. You are afraid of something that has never happened and isn't going to happen. We could put that same map up on Reddit and it wouldn't matter. Just think about it, how many times have you gone to Dick Picks Park or Anarchy Point without Point83? Are you thinking of never? The answer is never. Even though you know where those places are you don't go because it wouldn't be fun without friends around. Who has a fire at Frink alone? So you need a group of people, and getting that together isn't easy. There are just not that many groups like us. Especially not with our regularity. Someone have a fire at Carkeek or Seward when we aren't around really isn't a big deal.

Now lets say some rando finds the map, so what? What do you think will happen? A kid throws a kegger somewhere? Big whoop. That already happens. We know we aren't the only ones going to these places. Each one is already a hobo camp, or a gay cruising spot (no judgement), or a public park. (Sometimes all three.) And what is the city going to do about it? How about nothing. It isn't like they are going to put up fences in the woods or hire armed guards.

If you really want to keep coming back to these places your time may be better spent picking up after yourself than freaking out that someone is going to "discover" one of these places.

Not exactly. I asked because people look to me for ideas on where to lead Tuesday rides and I'd rather not go to the same couple of places every time.

it has happened. andre gave a great example. because of the explosion of popularity of a certain spot, it got noticed and shut down. trying not to have that happen again.

Golden Gardens has always been full of bros but in the last couple years it's gotten unusable

and in that time we've more frequently found people already burning at Carkeek when we get there

It's true, everyone knows that your first time should be completely unanticipated, and possibly not consensual.

North Seatac Park (where today's Cross Revolution race was held) has a nice fire pit nestled against a big grassy hill on the edge of the football field. It is currently stocked with a couple hundred pounds worth of 6-8" diameter rounds which are a result of some nearby tree clearing.

Just saying, we're ridden further south before.

I have had fires at some of these places with out point83. I burned a christmas tree and pallets with a buddy at anarchy point before I'd met y'all. Published maps of these sorts will be found and will be used.
Or published in the stranger like this.

On a different note I would like to take the train! [/url]
