So I'm going up to Vancouver on my little bicycle for my birthday next Wednesday and I don't know anything about the place. Beers, bikes, maybe sushi or something. Tips?

Point your bicycle towards the seawall and then follow it "all the way." I mean, you can start from Crab Park, weave thru Canada Place, around Stanley Park (A++), thru False Creek, past Kits, and out to Spanish Banks.
MEC is REI on sale and has a rooftop bench with a view of the city. Dunsmuir and Hornby bikelanes are nice.
.83 Vancouver chapter is Bike Rides Society meets Thursdays in Dude Chilling Park 8pm.

The area around MEC (W Broadway and Manitoba) has a bunch of outdoorsey and bike shops. Sports Junkies in particular is like Recycled Cycles X Second ascent. the other shops and outdoors stores are also intereesting, plus MEC of course.
Go to Granville Island. It's an intentionally touristy spot with a very a cool mix of food and good galleries and kitsch and so on. The "public market" building on the north end has a LOT of food options.

Well, that was awesome. Thanks for tips all. Rode with the Bike Rides Society, they're incredibly nice. Really, really Canada nice. Rode a lot of the seawall, which was stunning, but about 3x as busy as the Burke on a nice day. Perfectly perfect for a slow spliffy roll though.
Did you know Canada has super PBR? It's like normal PBR, but 5.9%!
Three tips for anyone doing the train thing in the future:
-the Vancouver tourism board has some deal where if you book one of a certain few hotels, you'll get 30% off a roundtrip train ticket for you and guests. This made our hotel room (decent 3 star thing) effectively free.
-America's all "just get on the fucking train go go go," but in Canada you have to show up an hour early. I have no idea why, but they're total dicks about it.
-Despite the warnings about bringing meat across the border, Bahn Mi and Pepperoni sticks are apparently a-o-k.
And lastly, for all you reeferheads, there is a shop called "the farm" that does not require a medical card and will accept US ID.

i actually walked halfway around Stanley Park last weekend. recommended, but a bike would have been better.
