About 40 miles one way, through Black Diamond. So a long day trip, or I guess you could Camp at Kanasket Palmer if you liked.

yup. the cemetery is a bit creepy, but the 7 million foot deep pit is where the balrog lurks. It was quite a bit overgrown when I was there. I'd suggest accessing it from the east side. west side is private if IIRC.
I agree kanasat palmers is the best near by camping.

Nah, it just sounded like a cool destination.

From the WTA reports it seems some enterprising folks are charging $5 to park in the field to the east. A dubious venture, but on my bike I wouldn't care.
