Hey there everyone, first of all, I miss you. Awww.
There, now that that's out of the way, I'm thinking about buying a touring bike. The Rodriguez UTB caught my eye... on their website, they have written out a long justification for why they think the bike is best built with 26" wheels. Is there a reason why I shouldn't go with 26" wheels? I know there's been a trend towards putting 26's on bikes for smaller folks... how will they perform for a big guy like me?
And one of the reason's I'm leaning towards 26" is for the convenience of packing when combined with S+S couplers.

I'd say do it. For men of substance the wheels will also build up stronger and there are lots of tire options.

Was going to say same thing. 26" wheels are actually stronger.
and you will have so much headtube! All the headtube!

First time (gentleman) caller, long time tallbro here.
My impressions on 26":
-Get up to speed faster.
-Easier to climb with.
-Cheaper, awesome tires (see Tioga Powerblocs).
-Less Toeverlap (and even lesser Swordverlap) than 700's, thought that's as much a frame characteristic as a tire size characteristic.
-fuck yeah durable.
Neutral:
-I can fit normal 700's in the .83 bike box. Seems moot.
Downsides?:
-Not too many that seem noticeable. I feel like they might be a little harder to keep at top speed than a 29" tire, but fuck if I can confirm that with Heine science. Maybe it's just because my 26" bike weighs 34 pounds, and I'm slow.
-Possible over-come-able complications with getting the correct rear hub that suits your needs. Still tons of vintage options. Getting rims might be harder.
-If you're feeling shy about too much headtube showing, try riser bars. But drop bars on mountain bikes are cool again. So say we all!
As to couplers...
-international flights seem to not gaf about bike box size.
-Chester turned me on to this website which lets you ship ahead
-why not get shinier cooler radder parts and this frame instead (jk, souled oot)?!
This is what a 60cm effective frame size bike looks like with 26" wheels:
I did 26" wheels because it's a travel bike, and spare parts are available anywhere. Plus it fits more easily into the suitcase. Plus I had them, and this bike was built mostly with spare parts.
