I can't think of anything different in terms of assembling the bike. I'd be curious to hear why some one thinks the BB shell will bust. track cranks are usually shorter, 165mm, compared to 170 mm road cranks. The only thought I have is make sure you know what type of bottom bracket you have.

The BB width and threading are based on the frame obviously but there are also two types of square taper spindles, JIS and ISO. This will determine which cranks you should be using.
Suntour and Shimano cranks use JIS taper
Campy and Stronglight typically use ISO taper

It's not true. You can run road cranks just fine. The only thing you have to "worry" is offest and clearance for the chainring. This should also be nothing to worry about. As long as the chainline and clearance are good, you'll be fine.

Like Andre said, track riders generally use 165 cranks so there is enough clearance pedaling on the banks, but Marymoor isn't steep so people don't usually have a problem with 170. When you're racing you're always in the drops so get real track drop bars like Nitto. A lot of people use more durable chains and cogs like Dura-Ace.

Check out Business Cylces. He has an awesome inventory and is one of the most knowledgable track persons around.

It's got a Sugino bb36x24t italian ,not sure of spindle length. I do plan on getting 165mm cranks mostly because of toe overlap...this things got a real tight geometry. Looking at the Sugino 75 Track cranks...it's about $172.50. Is there anything more affordable but also quality? From BC site it said not to mix japanese bbb with other non japanese cranks and visa-versa.

Besides length the only thing that classically sets road cranks apart from track cranks is the bcd, track is 144bcd so the smallest ring you can run is a ~47 IIRC Modern Japanese road cranks have 130 BCD so you can run down to a 38t ring in the front.

There are a lot more chain ring options if you run 130bcd, Salsa makes nice SS rings.

this is what the seller is offering me:
Gipemme track cranks, 165 in length. Comes with 46t (1/8")
chainring. Chainring bolts, bottom bracket bolts and Campy dust cap covers.
I'd just want $100 for everything.
