It's spring and while most alpine lakes west of the crest have yet to melt out, Goat Lake nestled on the eastern side of Barlow Pass off the Mtn Loop Highway has! By taking the Upper Elliot trail, a decommissioned forest road deteriorated single-ish track wagon road open to bikes to the wilderness, one can expedite the approach, leaving only ~1.5mi & 650' feet to travel by foot.

Once the site of a mining camp, Goat Lake affords tranquil views of snowcapped peaks across its glacial blue-green water. While a popular destination, it is often passed-over packed to the gills during the early season.

Since cycling the approach shaves considerable little to no time off and the ride from the end of the pavement along the Sauk River from its confluence w/ the White Chuck is among one of the best in the state (can confirm: ride is very nice), I plan to park at the Beaver Lake TH and pedal to the wilderness boundary: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/21495691

Meet-up at the Darrington IGA @ 9:30am for supplies. Leave town by 10 and be at the lake around noon 2. Return to the city before sunset. ~30mi RT & 2200' 3500' in the saddle, ~3mi & 650' RT on foot. Currently have room for 2 1 more in the car w/ space on the rack. Recommend at least 2832mm-wide tires (preferably somewhat knobby).

EDIT: Modified to include things learned with original intel struck-out and corrections to it in italics

I'm a maybe on this. Looks like fun. Is a forest pass required to park?

A forest pass is req'd to park at any TH off the mtn loop. But I'm not 100% certain about at the end of the paved road. Better safe than sorry probably, but you can hop in my car from Darrington and we'll just use mine. I got room for ya...

Well that was moderately alright, average at best... Kale & I made it to Goat Lake entirely on gravel & dirt from the confluence of the White Chuck & Sauk rivers but it took us most of a warm spring day
