As many of you know, I am a fan of the central Washington.

In two weeks time, I would like to do a car camping/bike ride trip out east.

Meet at the Cle Elum Safeway at 7:00pm (for those of you with 9-5's/negotiable).

Convoy to a TBD dispsersed campsite *near* the following:

https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/okawen/recarea/?recid=57859

Taneum creek area has a lot of open, dispersed site creekside.

Saturday: either ride to, or drive to a given start point for a gravel ride of a TBD intensity (interest will dictate whether this is a CX friendly ride, adventure touring, or a full squish MTB ride).

Here are the following places I have interest to go to:

A.) Lion Rock (park in Liberty, 16 miles uphill)

B.) Quartz Mountain (aka, a 20+ mile slog of some sort away from the Taneum Creek campground up)

C.) Nice mellow loop between Ellensburg and Cle-Elum on the JW Trail

D.) Somewhere of rider choosing near Roslyn...

This is open ended, looking for interest/suggestions/choose-your-own-adventure.

Either way, I'm probably going out there regardless and would be interested in camping/riding friends. There are a bunch of cool places I can't drive to, but could easily moto to, or TURN MYSELF INSIDE OUT MULTIPLE TIMES TO GO TO ON A BIKE.

I would LOVE to join on this adventure, but am moving that weekend. Would be interested in seeing what routes/campsites you end up at for future adventure times.

Torrey, I would also enjoy this kind of ride and camp but I've got all weekend plans elsewhere. Let us know how it goes!

Current plan is to meet at the Sunset Cafe in Cle Elum on Friday at 7:00pm, depart at 8:00pm (do your grocery shopping during this time if necessary).

Convoy out to the old townsite of Liberty, drive up into the hills to a cool dirt lot I know about (has very cool rock formations). This area can be acessed by either NF9718 or 9712 depending on light/time, both roads are in pretty great condition right now. Watch sunset, have a small fire if allowed, camp in the dirt.

Saturday morning: poop in the woods, ride the ~1 mile to the "road washout" that my van cannot pass, and proceed to climb the remaining 11 miles to Lion Rock and look at it for a bit. Based on my limited experience, this is definitely cross bike friendly, but I am likely to go full squish for the low gearing and the descent.

Lunch in Ellensburg/Cle Elum followed by hanging out somewhere on the Yakima river (86 degrees on saturday it appears).

Thoughts are still being processed.

What's your Sunday plan? As a newly minted resident of Kittitas County I could be enticed to ride some dirt and/or gravel, preferably at elevation though as it's going to be HOT HOT HOT

FWIW, I putzed around the Summit Nordic center trails in my Subaru last night and there seem to be a lot of gravel grinding options...

Ben,

I think I'm good, I have enough knowledge of the area to get lost and found again and enough stubbornness to get myself in trouble.

Aaron,

If I/whoever shows up friday evening decide to stick around the Cle Elum area for a Satuday night, i plan on camping at Lower West Fork Teanaway DNR dirt lot and riding

https://www.evergreenmtb.org/trails/lower-west-fork-teanaway

on sunday morning.

Ooh, I am tempted to join you on Sunday for that. It's basically what we tried to ride on Langston's birthday that winter it didn't really snow but snowed just enough to be inconvenient. What time do you think you'll start riding?

FYI, the drive home will be slow going due to an inane amount of traffic trying to jam itself thru the pass. I'd advise detouring from Hyak -> Denny Creek via the old road.

edit: Ride cancelled, my appologies.

I was heading out of town around 2:45 and got rear ended by an out-of-towner in a rental car.

Everyone is fine, the van is a little dented, the bike rack is totally crushed, and my mountain bike's rear triangle is cracked/rear wheel is quite taco-esque.

Getting all A's in these tests of patience.

.
