So I just bought a train ticket from Vancouver to Kamloops in BC for the 27th of August and plan on riding back south someway which has yet to be determined. The easiest plan is just ride to Bellingham like this and then ride or Bolt Bus it back to Seattle. Alternately I could ride to the Okanogan like this and rent a U-haul to get home (though thats $$$). Anyone been up there? Any one have any thoughts? Any insights are much appreciated.

PS Hop-ons welcome...

I was up on the WA side a few months back. Was surprised to find myself in the Okanogan National Forest at one point. It doesnt show up on most maps but NF land extends from Wenatchee forest quite further east. Most of the land west of 97 & north of Chelan, with a "pocket" around Twisp/winthrop, is actually the Okanogan NF. Plenty of backroads and little country highways through there.

I was only there for a day, so no meaningful advice, but solid A territory. It's definitely on my list to get back up there and explore.

I have done the E-W Northern Tier Route from Omak to the wetside, and it was very very enjoyable and off Hwy 20 whenever possible. There is also an ATV/dirt route that can take you from Winthrop to Wenatchee, but accounts describe it as brutally mountainous and probably not great for pedal bikes/normal humans.

Also all sorts of quiet country roads that you could piece a route together to get to major transportation hubs heading south from Omak.

Ben & Fred also know this area well, they probably have a route to recommend.
