Hey uguise! I kinda miss yall! Christine, this is my stupid forum name, happy now?
What were the circumstances of your experiences where you're riding in the area of the street cars may legally ride on, and some vehicle over 4 feet wide passes by enough space for you to feel like you should at least like slow down a little to lessen the impact of all the stuff that may be flying at you from some head-on collision?
In the last long distance trip I was on, to the best of my memory, I was at the very farthest left in the center of the right rut of of hwy 9 north of Sedro Woolley and there was an 18-wheeler that was riding completely in the oncoming lane, passing me at like 10 mph up and around this hill cars go at least 60 mph down. It was like 11am during the week. A pickup truck did a similar thing, completely in the oncoming lane, on the same highway btwn Sedro and Arlington, around those lakes, on a sunday afternoon by the 4th of July, but at like 50, to the point where the car heading at them put their lights on. I was taking a left off that same highway to a super desolate road, from being right next to the median, and this FedEx van booked it in the oncoming lane around the corner onto the road I was turning to. I was going like 25 mph in that part of the lane for like 10-20 seconds. Another time I was riding like 15mph in the right rut of NW 80th and someone passed completely in the oncoming lane at like 40 or 50 over the hillcrest between 15th and 8th. That was the last time I commuted on that street at those longitudes during the day.
Anyway, I'm stoked for another trip around there! Thx!

My experience with touring is that cars are definitely not used to you being on the road, so they give you ample space. Biking in the city is and will pose somewhat of a nightmare for me. At least when i ride my bike on the those highways, i'm extremely glad that they give me space, especially because of the the air displacement that happens. A little dirt in the face is better than being sucked into the road after a giant semi driving by.

my concern is some day someone who is passing me out of an abundance of caution is going to hit oncoming traffic straight on because they basically go into the other lane.

I get passed often on blind corners where there's no way of knowing what's around the bend... I'm waiting for the day it leads to a head-on collision

Alec! I miss you! Even though I saw you a few weeks ago. Hey, Megan is a bitch but you knew that already. Come ride bikes so we can complain about sandwiches and stuff. I will try to save you chip bags. Thinnys are a lie and taste like cardboard garbage.
More room is better than none. I'm tired of commuting down Rainier everyday having cars drive as close as possible to me. I try to take the lane, sometimes I just don't like sharing. Stay safe out there!
Also I realize why you were reluctant on telling me your forum name. Don't worry your secret is safe with me, and known by only everyone here.
