Bad photo in the article. The classic prefunk was the giant empty Pier 62/63 which is still due to re-open in the fall. Freshly broken pier is the weird multi-level hobo park south of the aquarium.

FYI, Pier 62 re-opened on Sunday.

I checked it out today, the lower part with water access is really cool. Stop by before some fool drowns and they limit access because We Can't Have Nice Things.
