this year I was going to go full re-tension all brake and shifter lines!
with enough practice you can learn to retension your brake cables while riding. I've gotten to the point where I do it almost every time I need to slow down.
That reminds me, Edmund. Does your unicycle have a brake? I must have seen you bring it to dozens and dozens of rides over the past few years, but I just can't recall if it does or not...
Unicycles have steel frames.
Fixed gear.
No brakes.
Can't stop.
Wouldn't want to.

None of this sounds particularly appetizing as an accompaniment to shrooms; all those squiggly things get extra squiggly under the influence if you ask me.

My unicycle brings all the bikes to the yard, and I'm like DAMN RIGHT.

The menu looks to be getting finalized. I think we're going to be something along these lines. I keep hearing rumors about some low boil but I don't know if it's true or not. So far we're roughly looking like:
Appetizers
-Pinwheels
-Devilled Eggs, w or w/out bacon
Drinks
-Whiskey Devenators
-Benjamin's Blue Birthday Suprise with rejuvenating energy recharge
-Peddler Brewing on tap
Mains
-Burgers ala 83 with fixins. Vegetarian options available in limited quantities
-Long Dong Dogs. Slide it down your facehole!
Sides
-Elote, mexican street corn
-Seasonal chips and fruit

I suppose I can volunteer for the Morning After Bacon cookout. I'll bring 5-6lbs of bacon and fry it up in my cast iron skillet, with only a small amount of cigarette ash in it.

This seems like a good time to surface this (thanks Joeball)
Today's excerpt:
T-Minus 5 Days till NotBC8 BCXL
Topic: Bike Prep
No more counting weekends. You have to wade through one more work week and then the time is nigh. You should already have the bike you plan to ride to Ben Country in your possession.
A. If you have recently modified* your bike in anticipation of BC you should be riding it to make sure everything is properly adjusted. new tires, fender, racks, panniers, cranks, shifters etc....
B. If you have recently acquired a new bike you should be riding it this week to make sure it is up to snuff. Modify as necessary. If B., then see A.
C. If you have neglected your bike since the last BC you should dust it off and be riding it this week to make sure it is ready to go. Modify as necessary. If C., then see A.
D. If you have been riding the shit out of your bike day-in, day-out since the last Ben Country make sure your bike is tight, greased, not too worn, and still on-off road worthy. Modify as necessary. If D., then see A.
Check that your shit is tight:
Rack Bolts
Brake Arm Bolts
Brake Pad Bolts
Crank Bolts
Chainring bolts
QR skewer/H
Cleat bolts
Spoke Nipples
Pedals
Headset
Bottom Bracket
Hubs
Check that your:
Cables are not frayed
Tires not too worn
Chain not squeaky
Feet don't hit your panniers when you pedal
Have following repair kit at a minimum:
Spare tube
Patch kit
Pump/inflator
Tools specific to your bike

now I'm waffling. I mean, I COULD just drove and park near the ferry, and then ride from there.....that would cut my ride distance down to a "mere" 48 miles. but then, I wouldn't be able to pack along a disturbingly large amount of bacon.
and two gas two-burner stoves. and a shitload of coffee. and extra cast iron skillet.

also, just in case for people (like myself) who forgot, this is on a national forest, so an NPP is required. it's too late to order one online now. but there IS a location in seattle where you can buy in-person.
319 Second Ave S.
Seattle, WA 98104
open 10-5 M-F for sure

An NPP should be no problem, Joe, according to the Urban Dictionary:

We're never going to get to ten pages if we don't both shitpost and rehash what we should already know (but it honestly doesn't hurt to think about again). Pointing towards the latter, here's today's (4 days left) tip from Joeball about Camp Prep.
T minus 4 Days till NotBC8BCXL
Topic: Camp Prep
Whoa... I'm sure glad I followed those bike prep tips from yesterday. I found a loose chainring bolt on the bike I'm planning to ride.
So by now your bike is pretty much ready to go. Time to make sure that camping gear is squared away. Below are some personal items you might want to consider packing.
Sleep Insulation: Sleeping bag/quilt. Still borrowing a sleeping bag? Go buy one, now. This is a very intimate piece of gear, like underwear. These are useful in so many other applications as well. Hyperlight option: pass out by the fire
Sleeping Pad: You probably figured you could use one of these too. Foam is cheap, robust, and light but bulky. Inflatable can be cushier and packs smaller, more expensive and has potential for failure. Hyperlight option: No pad, find a duffy moss spot
Shelter: Tent, Hammock, Maybe you go DIY Tarp Shelter like Siebold, he always ends up sleeping in a car anyways. If you borrowed something make sure you know how to set it up and make sure to air it out at home afterwards (even if it didn't rain). Hyperlight option: Sleep in someone else's car or under the stars.
Stove/Waterfilter: Splitting these 2 items between a 2 person team makes sense, but then you have to rely on someone else, so make sure you trust your partner. Hyperlight option: Bring a metal mug and just use fire.
Bowl/Mug/Utensil: Even if someone happens to buy you food and booze don't expect them to hand you a disposable plastic cup that you forget in the woods. Hyperlight option: Cupped hands and pinched fingers.
Camp Tools:
Headlamp, Flashlight, or Bike Headlight (It's dark in the woods yo!)
Knife/Multitool (If you are more likely to cut yourself than do something useful with a knife leave it at home)
Lighter (actually you probably won't need this because someone else will have made the fire and you're smoking someone else's weed/cigarettes)
First Aid:
Ouchpouch/Level 1 First Aid (I also suggest and ounce of prevention so you don;t bleed in the first place)
Personal meds (I like TUMS)
Toiletries:
TP (It's less than 24 hours in the woods, you could probably shit-camel, but if you have to go, having TP is better than riding home with one sock)
Hand Sani/Soap (because you just pooped in the woods)
Toothbrush/Toothpaste (hopefully you brushed your teeth before all this poop talk)
Clothing that works well for:
Sun(heat)
Night(cold)
Bugs
Rain(hopefully not)
EXTRAS: The above items are the basics. With enough confidence or naivety you may not have needed all of them either. You probably need or want to bring something that is not on the above list. So you should bring that. Bring something useful, awesome, unique, boring(but comfortable), fashionable, ridiculous.

so for those of us who'll be there early; probably want to center the main fire closest to that river, or is there a different spot that's best for fitting us all?

That was pretty cool. Cheers buddy.
Bit hazy for some reason. Was that the time that Joby made that girl cry or the time that Fred made everyone else cry?
I pedaled a bike yesterday for the first time in 2021 so I am feeling 100% ready to go now. Also filed my taxes and planted tomatoes out so it was a pretty big day.

I think Murple is right.
I remember Ben addressing (scolding) the group: "IF YOU GUYS KEEP SMOKING WEED AND DRINKING WHISKEY WE'RE NEVER GONNA GET THERE."
I think Joe also tried to trade me a baguette for my last drips of water along the softball sized cobble highway.
Also 80's Jeff made it on 23's getting rad most of the way

IIRC, Tom and I kept smoking weed and got to camp before Ben and just about everyone else.
Joby and Kristen were on the aptly named divorce bike.

It bears reminding Ben that smoking weed and drinking whiskey IS the "there" we're trying to get to.
