this bike looks like a good deal, if it fits what does everybody think it is worth?

You gonna race? Looks like a Squid machine. Nice! The wheels are not durable though. RACE USE ONLY!

thanks Aaron, that is why I am asking all of you. I prefer a bike I am not afraid to drop. Is this one worth getting for the frame and then putting better wheels on for riding to the taco trucks? (and those .83 races I keep hearing about)

Get a fitting done first. If the frame fits, ride it. Still $875 for a used bike. I would wait until the swap meet next Sunday.
You could probably get the same bike for half that price....or something better.

I am going, I think, I want to, and I want to get a frame, but I don't even know what size I should be looking for...how can I figure that out on my own so I dont have to spend a million dollars for someone to give me information?

check out this link then wander into a bike shop where the folks are nice and they're not busy. tell them you probably won't buy up front. most kids get paid commission. they'll like you more if you're up front. someone will likely help you test out a few bike. try different frame. adjust little things. most people i've met recently ride bikes to big for them. this will fuck your joints in the long run. make notes about things so you know what not to buy and don't waste time at the swap. (for instance, i thought i liked fujis until i rode one for 50 miles and realized the geo was way off.)

yes I have read mr sheldons expose on frame sizing confusion, I will probally drop into recycled as they know me kinda and would probally be pretty willing to help me out more than any of the other shops around.

A fitting (Fit Kit) is only $30

I can't be bothered to spend that much, unfortunately.

Depends what is on it. Pretty sure the 01 was a 853 frame and came with 9 spd Ultegra. Not too bad really, but their price is still a little high.

That is OK, you are young and flexable (Dumb and full of cum, too!)
Any size bike will fit you. It doesn't matter. Your arms are made out of rubber.
Comfort is for old guys like me. What you want is the handlebars as low as possible and a super narrow hard seat. The top tube should be as long as possible so your neck hurts after just a mile or 2. You should not be able to see the road more than 20 feet ahead when you are in the hooks!

I ride a 57/58 for street riding. This way i can drop out of my clips and stand flat footed and not rack my goods on the top tube.
I used to ride a 59 which wasn't bad, but after that i was riding a 55/56 so i was used to a small bike and it's difficult to go back up to a 59/60. However, for long road rides, I think i'm going to ride a 60/61.

the frame is lemond's nicest steel frame, full 853 (rear triangle and all) which gives the bike a damn stiff feel for steel.
and aaron shut up, the wheels are fine, it came with rolf vector pro's, which was the best of the trek rolf wheels cause it was the only set rolf ever designed for them.
and yes it comes with full ultegra 9, none of that half ult, half sora bullshit that trek does nowadays.
and the geometry is real comfy.
all in all this is my favorite road bike that trek ever put out, but true, 875 is way to spendy. i'd go 650 or 7.
