So I'm building a new fixie this month. Between having a full paycheck and my tax return, i figure now is the best time.
Anyway.
I'm buying a Pake frame/fork next week to start w/.
I'm clueless on what are decent cranks, headset, bars, bottom bracket, stem, brake calipers, etc...
The only other thing I Know is that I am getting velocity deep v's in cherry red. I haven't figured out what hubs yet, either.
I mean, of course I'd love some phil wood or chris kings, but that shit is pricey and i have bad luck w/ stuff being stolen or broken. so, I'm looking for stuff that is mid to top of the line.
I'd just look around online myself try and figure out what, but at work most bike stuff is blocked, so...
I'm going for a black and red pattern to the bike.
i figure i should start figuring this out since I'm buying the frame next week.
and it's 2:40 am, so I am rambling a bit.
anyway. any advise or ridicule is appriciated. thanks.

If it was me (it's not, but you asked for input) and I was going for the "black/red" theme - I'd go all the way with it:
I'm jealous. I've never actually "built" a fixed before. It's always just evolved from what extra I had lying around.

Know a powder-coater?
There are a ton of Dimention alloy ahead stems out there in red. They are mtb, but you can get 25.4 road bars and cut them.
I would go for the silver Surly hubs or Suzie hubs and have them powder coated with rims, bars, seat post clamp (if needed) and cranks so they all matched.
Black spokes and nipples.
FSA Pig headset in red.
Though red hub, black spokes, red nipples, black rim and red tyres are pretty suave looking.

I've always just heard bad stuff about NYCbikes from bikeforums.net...let me find the thread.
Sounds like a bad exprience. I got my stuff in a few days & I really like it. As far as customer service goes I think we have all had shitty service from time to time from a bunch of blowhards. The shop (in seattle) I got my pista from installed a shitty headset or just did a shitty job, & when i asked them to fix it all they did was pull a stupid face. That said it is good to be informed of the pro's & cons of shops online & not.

Thanks for the help guys!
I was going to pick up the frame and what I could get at the shop on friday when I got paid, but I might be moving at the end of the month, so I have to save some $$ for that :(
If I'd just file my damn taxes already, I'd have $800.

Today I went to buy my new frame. Of course, they had none in my size in stock. THey won't be in stock til middle of may. That's ok. Because I was only going to buy my frame and headset today and the rest of the stuff in the middle of may. So today I bought:
two non machined cherry red velocity deep v rims.
black spokes.
surly flipflop and freewheel hubs
random name black crank(mostly just for my current fixie)
new chain
16t cog
sugino lock ring
....
$439! wooooo
still need frame:$300
Headset: $125
bottom bracket: $?
bullhorns: $45(she has a set of nittos in there. i like them. they drop a bit before they go out...)
stem:$?
seat post:$?
Saddle:$?
brake caliper:$10
bartape $10
sugino crank(not the 75):$70
new tires, etc...

Why shell out for the King headset, while spending half as much on the cranks? You could get this good quality headset for much less.

mostly because molly will face my frame and install the headset for free if I buy the CK.
That one I'd have to order. $80, plus shipping, then the fee to have it installed since none of my friends have the tools for that...
that's why. Plus the shops in portland only have in red the CK headset.
