This is totally a week in advance, but we need to have another bbq.
How about next Sunday at Golden Gardens? I know the water is freaking cold, but the sunset and sand should be enough of a draw.
What do you say?
EDIT: Go to the final postings in this thread for all the details!

i'm 100% there. i'm completely booked up in the morning and early afternoon, but the rest of the day is cake. CAKE.
edit: actually, jason, thats the best idea in the universe. it's my birthday on monday the 15th, and i was going to suggest going boozing somewhere on sunday the 14th, because let's face it, monday is a shitty night to go do anything. instead, though, your bbq suggestion is even better! see, this is why we keep you on salary.
so yes, everyone, let's do a bbq on sunday night! in the words of derrickito, IT'S MY BIRTHDAY, BITCHES!!!

I fucking love bbq's!!!!!
I'm bringing tubular meat, buns, beer, and ketchup.
Someone is going to need to reserve the table/grill.

We all know that magnussen is a sweet spot to hit up, but what other parks are people interested in trying out? Do we want to go to Madrona again? Seward? My only requiremment is that we can go swimming.

Seward is good. Good place to rally everyone and ride over to also.
I mentioned Madrona, but then thought twice about it. There are a lot of families with small kids that show up there. I think they'd be much less tolerant of our antics than say, people at Magnussen. What's the crowd like over at Seward on the weekends?

We could even do some criterium sprint training while at Seward. Really up the ante amoung ourselves!

I'm still saying Golden Gardens for two reasons.
Sunset.
Sandy Beach.

I also say Golden Gardens, and for the same reasons, though I'm not sure if I'll be there.

I say no to Golden Gardens for one main reason: You can't swim there.

as much as i love GG, i think swimming is a pretty key element of any barbecue. seward, then?
I CANNOT STRESS THE IMPORTANCE OF FINDING A PLACE TO GO AND THEN EVERYONE COMING. I'M TURNING 29 NEXT WEEK AND, FRANKLY, MAY NOT HAVE TOO MANY OF THESE BIRTHDAYS LEFT.

The average life expectancy for a Canadian is 85.5 as of 2002. Dude, you're not even CLOSE to being halfway dead! Relax! We'll all be able to enjoy Scotty for a very long time to come. Perhaps too long...

i think what he means is too many birthdays where his wife is out of town and he is free to party irresponsibly with a bunch of bike nerds.
also birthdays of the twenties, since this is de facto his last.
whatever we do though we should do it full-on. if this week is as hot as the last few weeks i'd be willing to brave the briny seas, plus at golden gardens you can dry off by a fire and step on shards of broken class and pallet nails from the assholes who burn pallets there!
also, remember, when we go to a park we're not just going to a park - we're breaking seattle munincipal codes left and right!
I'm not worried about cold, I mean the water at Golden Gardens is not so safe for swimming. Much like one should never go swimming at Alki, or Gasworks. Ew.

i wouldn't swim at gasworks because of the long-standing pollution of the dirt and the fact that you'd get clocked by a boat. but golden gardens? alki? they're cold but they're on the sound, and everyone knows the solution to pollution is dilution! and unless you swim pretty far out you're not going to get hit by any boats.

So....
Bonfire.
Sunset.
BBQ.
Jake might get naked.
Sounds like a party at Golden Gardens to me! Plus we can reserve a bbq shelter there.

No no, we're not settling it this easily. There needs to be some tears and bloodshed. Jake and Jason really need to fight; chains, broken bottles, c'mon! Isn't that the way the Dead Baby's settle shit? We gotta get a harder image people! FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!

It has nothing to do with boats, unless of course you're swimming out far enough to avoid the raw sewage dumpings from the houses and businesses set up on the hillsides. It's beautiful the way Seattle was originally designed: all sewage drained directly into the main bodies of water that surround the city. Lake washington is substantially cleaner now that those sewer systems have been upgraded and major efforts have been put forth into cleaning it up, but places like Blue ridge, Magnolia, and Alki still have an optional upgrade for homeowners. So if they don't want to spend thousands of dollars for a sewer system upgrade, then they don't have to. And many of them don't. So what does that mean? Shitty water. Seriously shitty water.
And if you want to talk about bad stuff in the sand let's not forget about all the crap derrick has buried out at Golden Gardens. Who knows what all those thousands of other people have left there too. Definately not cool for swimming.

I think one of the major things this bbq needs is a bonfire.
Where else can we have a bonfire besides Golden Gardens?

i'm with mike. the only way this is getting settled is with an octagon, or perhaps a thunderdome.

Sunday, Golden Gardens, Meet at gassworks at 2:00, stop at the Fred Meyer on the trail?
I should mention that with the grill and charcoal, I won't have much room in the trailer for other party ingredients.
i cannot make it out there until 630pm, but i am more than happy to loan out my big trailer and previously-mentioned small propane grill. if ya'll think it would be helpful to have such things please don't hesitate to let me know. i might be able to bring them down to gasworks if someone else wants to pull 'em out to golden gardens.

For the average person, a lot of this boils down to two important questions: Can I eat the fish from Puget Sound? Is it safe to swim here?
The answer is: It depends.
Virtually all the urban bays have contaminated sediments. Scientists, environmentalists and others who have studied the situation generally agree that it's best to stay out of Elliott Bay, the Duwamish River, Lake Union, Commencement Bay, Sinclair and Dyes inlets, Everett Harbor, Port Townsend Harbor and Fidalgo and Bellingham bays.
The state's list of polluted waterways includes stretches of dozens of rivers, including the Nooksack, the Puyallup, the Snoqualmie, the Snohomish, the Duwamish and the Nisqually.
"I just would not go in the Duwamish unless I had to -- and then if I fell in, I'd get out as fast as possible," said Jacques White, staff scientist at the environmental group People for Puget Sound.
Generally, the threat comes from stirring up sediments on the bottom, rather than from the water itself, scientists said.
White thinks swimming at Alki Point is probably safe because it is far removed from contamination sources and is well-flushed by tides.
personally, i think alex should start another side project, maybe go around welding shut illegal pipelines along the duwamish like sangamon taylor from zodiac? get all eco up in the house!
