I ran into Cory, Dave, and Phil from Zoo*Bomb (a Portland crew) at the DB Downhill on Friday. Chatting with them reminded me of a promise I made last winter. Leslie, Katie, and I made it down there for their Winter Olympics this last year to represent .83. We were there Saturday and Sunday, but left before the actual Zoobomb took place on Sunday night. So we promised them that we'd be back to do the Zoobomb with them soon.
As I'm talking to Cory I realized that I was a fuckwad and had yet to make it back down there. So who's interested in heading to portland some time soon to do a little Zoobombing action? I'll be tied up August 25th through Labor Day weekend, but any other time is open. It would require an overnight stay on Sunday night and that means taking Monday off of work for the people who are going.
Who's down for the BOMB?!
Note: mini-bikes are stongly reccomended, though not required!

How about Sept 10 - 12? Drive down Saturday, Drive back Monday morning?
I should be able to accomodate 8 people and 8+ bikes if people want to ride in the Suburban.

That little red bike is really for kids. The wheels are plastic and the coaster brake is weak. Plus you can't really go that fast. I do have a little Yellow, Bent, but repairable. 16" Kids bike. Also someone could borrow Braxton's old bike.
Jake, I think (*beer induced amnesia*), was telling me about the Zoo Bombers at the DBB Party. As I understand it you need little bikes.
The tandem is way too big and it gets too many flats!

Minor Technical issues with the flats. Totally getting them worked out.
I've got two tandems (the other is a MTB). Maybe we should take all 3, and zoobomb in a Tandem pack.

You have 2, I have 1. That is 3. We could hook up the trail-a-bikes for 3 more people!
We need a bike trailer (an auto tailer for hauling bikes). My friend has one!
I always said I would never ride in an SUV again, but I think your car is not pimp enough to be an SUV. Wasn't it built before the term came out. Also you need one of these on the back, then I will ride in it. I stole a bunch from cars and am going to make some more.
Ok, so the basic premise of zoobomb is to have a mini-bike (smaller than 16" wheels, but really you can ride whatever you've got) the you use to bomb the hill from the portland zoo all the way into downtown portland. They use the MAX (portland's lightrail) to take them into the mountain the zoo sits on top of then ride elevators back up to the top of the hill. The do it at night. The do it fast. And it's roughly 3 miles down!
HELL YES!
SUPER cool guys and gals too! September 10-12 sounds good to me.

two minibikes + welder = minibike tandem!
colin's spincycle would be super fun for that as well.

Sept. 11 is my and Jason's birthday.
Jason, wanna do a birthday ride? I have some little bikes we could chop and weld into a mini tandem. My landlord has a TIG welder!
We will need to weld on some Scotch flask holders!

We should do it straight then, at least the first time. Minibikes are pretty small. We could probably bring regular bikes to cruise around portland on, and minibikes just for the bomb.

I used to live in Portland. The hill down to downtown is not super steep, just long. Seattle's hills are much shorter and steeper. It will be fun! You have nothing to fear, but .83 itself!

I think this works for me. If our group gets larger then Joby can handle then I'll offer up my car too. I can take 3 normal-sized bikes on my rack.
Would anyone be able to trek it back Sunday night?! I am planning on taking a bunch of days off coming up, and if I can avoid losing that monday, that would be hella grippa tight.
Anyone with thoughts?
Anyone else have a car?

You and your resteraunt friends have gotten you all used to not getting any sleep.
Just FYI, the zoobomb usually lasts until midnight I believe. So you'd be back by 3-ish? Something like that...

I am so very down for this.
I will need a small bike. Could easily Craigslist one but donations are welcome.
I will be driving back Sunday night because I can't take off work Monday, so anyone who wants to come along is welcome to... with the caveat that my car is a Corolla, so you will want to supply a bike rack if you're bringing anything bigger than a small bike which would go in the back seat or trunk.

September is good.
Fuck yeah.
Matt is definately down for this! Reserve a spot for him in your car. Thanks, I'll tell him you have this offer open.

Consider Matt's space reserved. Tell him if he brings a bike rack he doesn't have to chip in gas money. :)

I'll have two mini-bikes for this event for sure. I may have a third, but that's largely dependent upon whether or not I can track down a new back tire for it. Whatever kid had it previously skidded the SHIT out of it. So I'll be going to Fred Meyer today (yes, they have mini-bike replacement tires).
Goodwill is also a great place to look for mini-bikes!

Aaron and I are talking about building a mini-tandem bike. If this works out, it's gonna be the best downhill birthday ride ever!
Did I mention it's going to be my birthday?

My birthday, and Aaron's for that matter, is terror day. Or September 11. Whatever you want to call it.

What day are people driving down for the zoobomb? I ask this, and it is relevant because my friend Rochelle (small asian girl who grabbed people's boobs after the drag race) is also a 9/11 birthday girl and is planning on one-upping myself and Marie by throwing an even bigger bash at my house on Saturday, 9/10.
The current rumors are: live music from Argo, Tennis Pro, and possibly Optimus Rhyme or Erik Halverson Band, full keg or two, and my finely-crafted hamburgers and hot dogs cooked over an open grill.
Now I'm not saying what is an appropriate birthday celebration and what isn't, but if folks planning on heading down on Sunday; well, I know what you can do with your Saturday late afternoon and on...
Of course party details have yet to be completely finalized, but since we're looking ahead and such I thought it might be relevant to bring up.

you best not be disrespecting the optimus r h y m to the e. they are devoted to stopping the wackacons and their evil leader, megadong.
I'm thinking that Leslie and I might try to head down on Saturday. I've got friends down there I can stay with. But she and I have yet to talk about it so who knows. I know there's room for a number of minis in her car and a couple of bikes on the roof...
And if you're curious about how the Zoobombers roll check out their page of bikes. Tons of clever creations. Mini bikes do often need to be adjusted for taller people after all... Not to mention style.
