Here's what I have--- indexed 8 speed Dura Ace downtub shifters (braze-on) and a matching rear derailer. These only work together as a pair due to a different amount of cable travel used only in old 8 speed DA systems.
I don't currently have a frame with the proper braze-ons for the shifters. Has anybody ever tried to rework a set of bar end shifters with different down tune shifter parts? In the past, I've always avoided taking any shifter apart (with good reason)
I'd like to hear if anybody else has tried to build new bar cons. I'm also looking for a set of trashed Shimano bar cons to play with. As always I have cash, beer and/or parts to barter.

Down Tune Shifters?
You should come on a ride. Then you might get some advice here. Until them I recommend ebay or rec.bicycles.tech or some other anonymous online group.
This here is a board for friends that ride together. Or you could just call me at my shop during business hours and I would be glad to give you advice.

you might be looking for this? barcon adapters for downtube shifters. alternatively you might be able to find or have somone fab for you a clamp-on downtube shifter mount.

thanks for the link lantius. I knew that the folks at Rivendall sold the bar-con bodies, but honestly, I wouldn't send $38 to Cali for something that might not work. I'd rather pay $20 to some local used bike nut for trashed bar-cons. I'm kind of funny that way. If I had to spend the $38, I'd try a local bike shop-- but honestly, most of them aren't really very helpful.
Aaron-- you'll have to wait for me to ride with .83 until the end of the month. Work, health and family crap are taking all my time right now. I started lurking on this board just to check if I really wanted to ride with you folks-- or even if you'd want to ride with me. So far everything seems cool. After being a solo commuter rider for most of my life-- a laid back bike club sounds like a lot of fun.
As far as who I am? I like to ride bikes and I have and can get lots of free bikes and parts. I'm not one of those greedy EBAY grifters who shake poor cyclists down. If you or any other cyclist needs any parts-- please just ask. I don't sell anything for anymore than I have paid for it and that's often free.
I guess I'm always looking to grow my homegrown parts trading network.

well, for local bike shops you might try aaron's bike repair, i know he stocks those barcon adapters. conceptually it doesn't seem that hard that they could be retrofitted together but the devil as they say is in the details.

Bring your shifters by, I am almost 100% positive they will fit. I do indeed have the mounts in stock.
