Over the last couple of weeks I've had something weird going on with my SPD pedals. Actually, just the right one (the one I clip into last). About once every couple of days when I'm clipping in, the cleat doesn't engage the pedal completely. Normally, I just pull my foot off and do it again just fine, but every now and then it feels as if my cleat partially engages the pedal. It doesn't click in, but it gets a little stuck to the pedal (only with unlimited float). I end up having to yank my foot off of the pedal.
It's not a huge problem, or something that's going to cause an accident, but I'm not sure what might be causing it. There's no dirt or mud built up, and everything seems to be working. Is this just me clipping in like a dumbass, or is there something up with the pedal?

Not that this is helpful, but it reminds me of when I threw some SPD pedals I picked up used onto my fixie. I could only clip in on one pedal about half the time. It turns out it had a little disk magnet inside the pedal mechanism. It was black on black, so it wasn't very easy to see.

The cleat definately has wear, but nothing excessive. The pedal still looks fine too. Really this only happens once every couple of days, so it's not a persistent problem, it's just something that never happened before.

i've noticed something similar to this but maybe it is different
sometimes when i try to put my foot in at a funny angle it gets caught and i have to pull/twist out harder than a regual dissengagement. this has only happened to me maybe 10 times over 5 years of riding spds.

That actually sounds like it. I've had a suspicion that it's been something I've been doing, since the pedals are fairly new and the problem isn't consistent. I'll just have to pay attention to my entry angle a little bit and see if that fixes it.

for the matter, check the position of your cleat. mine shifted the other day and i was having trouble clipping in (something generally unheard of for me). tweak as needed. it's a good slogan. really.

Probably a good suggestion. Last week I came up to a stop and had a lot of trouble clipping out, and then a lot of trouble clipping back in. Turns out I'd lost a cleat bolt entirely. It mainly sucks because I always have a lot of trouble getting the left cleat just right or my knee complains and now I have to fiddle with the position all over again.
