So Matt and I went over to Sea-Skate last night (the skate park under the space needle, kinda) and had a fun little skateboard session. I used to skate all the fucking time, but gave it up a few years back. I'm thinking of making a habit out of it again and want to start skating a lot more.

Does anyone else have any skating experience and might be interested in a little afternoon/evening sessioning? Let me know.

Don't worry, it's not about to interfere with my biking (unless i get hurt real bad or whatever)

I've got my deck that's just chillin in my apartment. I stopped a while back due to ankle problems, but would love to get into a bowl again. Hell, just rolling around is a hoot.

Abe from the Beacon Hill house skates all the time. I'm sure he'd be interested.

That'd be awesome! There are also a couple of sweet street spots I've skated over in Ballard. Something to keep in mind.

I skated for four years, but that was about five years ago.. if I could get my hands on a board, I'd so be down.. I love jumping back on a board after not being on one for so long.. though I always feel so retarded having to try and learn everything all over again.

It's so much easier trying to learn for the second time though, don't you think?

Find yourself a board ! Or buy one... Let's get our skate on!

Yesterday I was walking to the QFC in Ballard and noticed that there was a construction trailer on the spot where the old skatepark was.

Anyone know what they're planning on building? Don't tell me it's another set of condos or I'll empty this gun into my mouth.

Oh shit... Ok so here's the deal:

The city will be building a public park on the spot. Supposedly they've incorperated plans for the reconstruction of a skate park of some sort in the corner of said "public green space" but unfortunately current political bullshit indicates that the city is likely to let that promised skate park space fall by the wayside and let the park sort of disappear. The city claims it is looking for a more ideal skate park space, which they're likely to fuck up the design and flow of anyway by hiring some asshat contractor that doesn't know the first thing about skate parks (see:mercer island). Current plans include evaluating a small remote corner of Woodland Park by the dirt jumps as a potential skate park spot. They believe it will suffice to service the entire north end of Seattle and will be an adequate replacement for the Ballard Bowl. They're also colossal idiots.

maybe you shouldn't skate that anymore. might be worth something (believe it or not).

They do make new pool decks (aka Oldschool boards). You could get a new setup and be stylin!

Then you just need to move to Queen Anne...

I don't know how you feel about BMXers but if you wanna give joint sessions a shot I'd be down. My understanding is that you kids on your roller-boards enjoy the same kind of terrain as we do.

Hey, I ain't biased! The only problem is that security can give BMXers grief at that park. Apparently "it's against the rules". I don't care though. The more the merrier! And you're welcome to come by and hit the fun boxes I've got at my place if you can haul that bike to the top of QA.

On a slightly different subject I've also got my urban downhill bike if you ever want to session the UW campus sometime too.

I have a classick "RIPPER" Santa Cruise with like 10" wide Independent trucks and old Rat Bones wheels hangin on the wall back home in NV. That thing's a blast!

I also have an old Powell "Red Barron" with Indie's and Rat Bone wheels, but it's not quite as rad.. I actually would take this one to the skate park once in a while for some old school rippin!

Seriously though, I'll totally go buy a new board. Where the hell does one get one around here, anyway?

I actually gave up my 55mm wheels for 20" wheels.. I BMXed for probably about 4 years also befor all my friends became huge flakes and I ended up parking my bike. I'm planning on having it shipped up as soon as I find an apartment.. I really miss it. :\

While Meat may be able to cut you a deal through his employer, I'd reccomend checking out Sno*Con (AKA the snowboard connection). It's underneath the Alaskan Way Viaduct. The have a HUGE skate selection. Also, you might want to check out Marleys skate shop too. The used to be in ballard but have since moved o the south lake union neighborhood (near jones soda co)

I wore out two of those but then I was doing the skating thing nearly every day on the tail end of the z-boys era through the 90's. I had a board with sandstone wheels on it for a while.

Used to race down the spirals in parking garages in Seattle.... before there were parks around for sure.

Hey no worries! It's way fun and guaranteed to improve you performance in all things related to balance and focus. Assuming you don't break anything anyway...

Longview, WA has an oldschool snake run the winds down and around a small grassy hill. Seems like that'd be just your style. I think it's still there in all it's oldchool glory.

Cranky old man talking:

In my day we didn't have fancy wheels, you took your sister's roller skates and nailed the wheels to an old board then tried to ride the thing down the sidewalk and into the street where the gargabe truck ran you over. And we liked it!

As I recall it was called sidewalk surfing.....
