Just wondering if there are any cyclocross racers out there. I raced singlespeed last year but I think I will try mens C this year since I have a proper cross bike now. It's a blast and would be cool to have some .83ers to represent.

I think the nishiki was geared at 38 or 36 with 17 in the back. So your 18 cog would probably be fine.
If more people were considering to race SS/fixed I'd be tempted to stay in that category.

I'm not to knowledgeable on the particulars (were those links helpful in that regard? I'll check them later tonight) but as it stands now, I only have the one bike, I'd probably try it single speed, but, I just removed the freewheel. So fixed it would be. Is that allowed? Recommended?
Dude, if we had a .83 team together all racing singlespeed then I'd totally be down. It might take me a bit to get a bike together though...
BONUS PRIZE: A singlespeed cross bike made on the cheap would also double as a bar bike! DIALED!

What kind of racing is it? Mostly roads? Single track? Traffic in the roads? All this must be taken into consideration while building up a bike for it, so all this must be answered!

My race bike last year was totally a cobbled together thing.
18$ x 2 tires
20$ free wheel
5$ fork
5$ canties
freerack frame and wheels
Tires are really the biggest issue since most junk bikes have 27" wheels and knobbies in that size are not as common.
There was one guy running fixed last year, he had a short rizer bar set up instead of drops. The only pain about fixed is that dismounting at speed is a very important aspect of the race. So your timing has to be spot on when you approach the dismount hurdles. Pedal/Crank clearance is also important because of the technical terrain.

Be prepared for single track, like the trails at seatac. The courses are well marked. There are usually paved or gravel sections of the course, atleast one hurdle that you must dismount (bunny hop if you have the skills) and a few "run ups" which are hills too steep to ride up so you have to sholder your bike. As the season goes on the trails get more wet and more muddy.

!! I wanna do this!
When is this? I know I should just click the links and read about it, but there were like 8 links and I'm supposed to be working.. I have to sneak a peek at this forum as it is!
Is there an entry fee? Any rules or whatever as far as the bike goes?
I'm thinking of sticking a freewheel on the free side of my fixed wheel, put on some beefier tires, a couple breaks and I should be good, right? Maybe some riser bars?
