whether it is an inflated price is a worhty debate.
but there is no doubt that this frame has had the shit raced out of it.
but its steel. unlike Al or carbon, it can handle lots a fatigue and still go strong.
do you see a toptupe dent from a bar spin as a large liability on a steel frame (which obviouly is over its racing days)?

For that much money I'd have a frame custom built.
Then I can custom-dent it myself.

Sorry, but it's not worth it for that price. At that dollar ammount one could get a custom frame built through any number of local fram-building companies and be assured that it would fit them perfectly. That's my thought anyway.
Also, there ain't no 56 frame that'd fit this gringo.

"The stays have scratches on both sides plus a good one on the inside. Despite this it is still looks great and has a ton of character."
that's like saying the girl you want to set your friend up on a blind date with has "a great personality, and she's a terrific dancer."

yes, but do you really think that scratches in the pait will make a master-crafted steel bike ride any differently?
(again, price issues/arguments aside)

also... $500 for a frame? i'm sure it is very nice but come on now, unless it is razor sharp and cuts people like a katana that's just alot of money for an old track frame.

Yes. It's a steel bike which means it's particularly susceptible to the effects of moisture. AKA rust. riding a frame like that in pacific NW would inevitably have rust issues. Additionally it looks like it's already getting rust damage in those scratches. Lastly, if you're buying it because of what kind of frame it is you're not likely to repaint it which means that you're leaving that bare steel exposed. I'm gonna guess that a rusting frame is going to have some performance issues after a while.

personally, i would re-paint it. my current ride was purchased with surface scratches and rust. but when steel rusts, it expands 18x in volume. so a little surface rust is neglagable to the integerty of the tubes. just sand it off and re-paint.
i can totally see buying an ex-keirin frame that has been very well used and reviving it for a sweet city ride. but obviously not for $1500.
im not trying to start a shit storm about this, sorry. maybe im just a sucker for nagasawas.

i don't see it as a shitstorm. Besides, I know you'd repaint it. It's just fun to talk about! hehe

It would take many many salt baths for those scratches to actually ever rot. Surface rust is like ugly paint. It comes off with a bit of steel wool, 0 damage to the metal.

Seriously, if I wern't trying to save for an apartment, I would probably do something stupid like drop half a paycheck on that thing. I couldn't see myself spending more than the starting bid though..
And it's a little too big for me.

yeah, its actually a little small for me. and i would probably consiter paying maybe ~$550 for it (consitering it has a NJS headset and bb).
the way i see it, for ~$500 you could get a new bareknuckle or soma, which are nice frames, or possible a used keirin frame? i would go for the master-built japanese steel (assuming it was just cosmetically beat up in the seasons of racing it did).
