man, now i feel like i am going crazy. i even went and looked at the seattle munincipal archives but i could have sworn that they trucked the sand in.

though apparently just a few weeks ago they added 10 tons of new sand to the beach. i wonder how regularly they do that?

lake union has been dredged and straightened and of course the addition of the montlake cut and the ballard locks changed it's shape dramatically, but no, it's always been a lake.

man-made lakes are rare, it takes a pretty substantial hole that you either have to dig or create by blocking off a valley, most of your suitable holes you might hope to find in the environment tend to be filled with water already.

Indeed. This combined with said dredging, straightening, and the water blasting of the Queen Anne Hillside also makes me thing it's a man-made lake.

lake union, 10 days before the montlake cut is opened up and lake washington drops 9 feet dumping water into lake union and a year before the locks were completed in ballard.

looks pretty lake-like to me!

For a long time I pronounced that like ka-thoo-loo but it's supposed to be pronounced like shoo-thoo-loo. Isn't that interesting?! I thought so too.
