I took the front derailer and giant chainring off my roadbike this weekend. I trimmed it down to 6 gears and I love it. It looks cooler and let's face it that is the only real reason to do it.

6 speeds are the new single speeds.

By this time next year every hipster on cap hill will get tired of pushing their SS around and will be making the jump back to gears.

You heard it here first.

i think either 3spd with coaster brake or 12-speed lugged steel touring bikes are the new fixies.

That's my late summer/fall project. My goal is to have a ridable bike together in time to put on fenders. Anyone got a cool steel tourer kicking around?

Hipsters have made me offers on my lugged steel Bianchi 12 speed sport tourer.

Unfortunately for them, I only accept cash, and have no interest in bartering for their vinyl collection of Iggy Pop or their "vintage" collection of Burma Shave soap-boxes.

elaborate. i'm looking fo' something to replace the dead cannondale.

1 1/8 headset - nice steel (tig is fine) - relaxed road geometry or touring - vert drops fine - 58-60

my ideal is a 2000 era lemond malliot Jaune or zurich frame

And handlebars I've got apleanty. I'm going to be putting bar-ends on it for extra-added sexiness.

Good thing my new place (sept 1) has a bike garage :P
