Voters take this category seriously: If the bike needs work, they head to Gregg's Cycles,a Seattle biking scene icon for 74 years and counting. Gregg's has the experienced wrenches to do whatever it takes, whether it's adjusting the shifting once your new cables stretch or performing an overhaul from handlebars to tail light. 7007 Woodlawn Ave. N.E., 206-523-1822, also on Aurora and in Bellevue, www.greggscycles.com.
Hmmm.

It's worth the hunt, and the stairs, to find MOBIUS CYCLES on First Avenue (though there's also a freight elevator to the loft), whose approach to repairs, instruction, and custom bike building is anything but off the rack. Owner Niki Beals, already experienced as a messenger and mechanic, now applies her experience with track, road, fixed-gear, commuter, and even BMX rides. She established Mobius last year with the goal of being a serve-all operation that doesn't talk down to newbies, "to take away the ego of the bike shop. It doesn't help anybody learn." (Yes, you can take repair classes there, too.) She's a specialist in pimping quality old steel frames with new components—like hot pink wheels on a '70s Bianchi model—matching style of bike to style of rider. A Kansas transplant who reached Seattle seven years ago, she says of her constant frame foraging and bipedal evangelism, "I'm kinda grassroots. I never really stop working."—Brian Miller1016 First Ave. (fourth floor up from alley entrance), 206-290-2096, www.mobiuscycle.com.
Way to go Nikki!

Rant:
My hatred for Greg's Greenlake is parallel to Mel Gibson's hatred of the Jews.
Ever try to get them to do a repair on a bike they sell you? Um, yeah... good luck getting it done in less than 6 weeks. And be prepared for them to gouge the shit out of your wallet. I hate that soul sucking place. They try and sell you expensive shit you'll never need and they are condescending dicks about it.
End rant.

Just think, all the hate I've missed out on by doing most of my maintenance by myself. Sure I've had Velo build me a wheel [1]. And I've had the clueless hard-sell from Supergo [2].
Have I mentioned how glad I am 2020 opened up like a mile from my house? I like Aaron's shop, but it's way too far for everyday things.
[1] Which were done totally shittily - worst hand-build Evar! [3]
[2] Most of the Performance guys in Bellevue have actually been pretty good.
[3] I was young and needed the money! Err, I mean, I had no clue how to do it myself back then.

I was given a $30 gift certificate to Gregg's last christmas. I was feeling lazy about installing my fenders, so I figured I'd let them do it. Coincidentally, they charged me $29 and some change. 30 bones just doesn't go as far as it used to.
They also told me that my chain was stretched (which it wasn't), and due to this my cassette needed replacing (which it didn't then, and still doesn't). Fortunately, I didn't listen to their recommendations.
