thinking of replacing rear 27" wheel for singlespeed; no flip flop.....on it right now is a 5 gear casette. circa 1973ish. the wheel is off an old puegeot. i think it's a weinmann rim...not sure about the hub. putting it on a shitty 73'ish rapaar frame. cheaper than buying a rear wheel for singlespeed?

It should be cheaper. You'll need a few spacers and to redish the wheel. Total parts coast should not exceed $5.00.
