So I am setting up an xtracycle and having an issue with the chain rubbing on the rear tire as it returns to the casstte in the rear (on the bottom) when I am in the lowest 3 gears on the cassette and in the front granny ring.

Rear wheel, 135 mm, 6-bolt ISO disc, deore XT hub mated with a Sun rynolite rim (27mm) with a 2.3 Kenda K-rad tire mounted and Sram 11-34 cassette
Rear der is shimano Lx m570 gs

2.3 is a wide tire but the knobs are minimal and downhillers run much wider tires.
I checked the dish, it is within 1 mm.
The BB is the right width for the crankset

I don't have a Park DAG to check but the xtracycle is brand new so the derailleur hanger shouldn't be out of whack but i guess you never know
It could be a bent derailleur cage on the rear but it had work flawlessly prior to the conversion.

Any thoughts?

Does it rub when you ride it or only when it is in the stand. My experience has been they sometimes rub in the stand because the upper chain run sags without tension. Then when you ride it it is fine. Your rear triangle may be out of aligment. Vertical or Horzontal drops on the bike frame? Was the frame 130mm spacing or 135mm?

Parent r=frame is a modern mtn

Parent frame is modern hard tail mountain bike, aluminum frame with 135mm, vertical dropouts,

I have yet to take it out on the road, I know it is different when it is actually on the road but the rubbing does not happen on the upper part of the chain which would be under tension on the road. It occurs on the lower portion of the chain running back to the rear derailure. Also it occurs in the 3 lowest gears on the rear cassette and in the front granny ring so it is more than the occasional brush of the tire.

I have held off putting the tires on the road and may opt for exchanging them for the 1.95 width k-rads
