So sometime in September I plan on signing up for the Wright Bros wheelbuilding class. I have a good rapport with Charles (the owner of Wright Bros.) and have had several wheels built there. His shop is located in Fremont (it's on my way home every day), and has everything you'd ever need and then some. Plus once you take one of his classes you can use his shop whenever you'd like. During normal business hours of course. He's been teaching classes since 1973 and the dude SERIOUSLY knows his shit about all things bike.
That said, if anyone is interested in taking this class with me just let me know. I'll have to call on the cost (and get me some wheel parts ordered), but I plan on signing up for it in September. I think it gets cheaper the more people we have singed up.
Here's the blurb he wrote up about it:
Wheels of the Fortunate
For those with a little skill, lots of patience, and a willingness to round out their life, wheel building can make you a true believer. Wheel philosophy and practical application covered in depth. Which way to turn the nipples is thoroughly discussed. You will build one or two wheels completely. 4 Nites
Also, just a little plug for Wright Bros: He specializes in bike maintenance and rare/hard to find parts for bikes. He doesn't really carry complete bikes, but he does carry tons of components and is able to do some amazingly thorough maintenance. A great place to stop in if you have a bizarre question about bikes, need some quality advice, or want your bike overhauled. Oh, and he has some fucking beautiful rims in stock too.

I couldn't agree more, that was a cool "shop" I, furthermore, would be interested in taking that class myself.

I think it's awesome that we have two resources in the city for things like this.
We've got Aaron who is a good friend who knows a lot and is interested in working with us. The big problem for a good majority of us is that he's in West Seattle.
When I stopped into Wright Bros the other day I was impressed with his friendly nature. The fact that there is a place that I can work on my bike close to my home is awesome.
We're totally stoked on both of these.
And Jake, I'd join you, but I've got Aaron already booked for a wheelbuilding class. Deep V's baby!

Charles Rocks and he is a nice guy.
I won't be offended in the least if any of you take his class.
I am pretty much friends with all the bike shop owners in Seattle. We are a small family if you will.

I forget, have you already signed up for the class at Wright Bros. yet, Ryder? I'll try to swing in there before I fly out to sign up maybe. Any date set yet?

I'm going to head over to Wright Bros today after work to get signed up. I'll find out how many spots he needs to fill. I'm stoked to rebuild those Campy Record track hubs! BLAM baby! BLAM!

Yeah, let me know. I was thinking about borrowing a dollop of your turtle wax, maybe swing by sometime this afternoon? Shred a bit, maybe buff a bit too? I wanna get a moderate permanent shine to the bike before I take it east with me.

you might want to try this as an alternative to turtle wax, it has revived lots of aluminum bits I have, cranks, brake calipers... It tried it on Lee's new bare aluminum frame also, it looked pretty hot. It also says it leave a protective cover.
I picked a tube up at the Big Wheels auto parts store on 45th st and Stone Way. Only a couple bucks.

If you do happen by, do you think I could bum your bottom bracket tool? I am going to remove mine today. It's a cup and cone BB, with a lockring. I don't know if that's what you have...
If you would prefer, I could pick it up myself, and not be a lazy bastard.

You can lend it to him, but then it will disappear into the abyss that is his room! I could do regular tool inspections in there and come up with tons of stuff! (to matt: Speaking of, where the fuck is my headset tool, bitch!?!?!). Plus Mike's BB is totally different than matt's just so you know. Mike has the new fancy kind without lockrings and pin plates and whatnot... But he can still bring up the tool anyway so you can see what i mean.

I was going to show him that as well as bring him my lockring tool, which i believe would have the tool to remove his shit. No worries, either way I'll bust it upside someone's face for the fuck of it. How about that?
