Taking offers for Ride Captains. PM me if interested.

I'd like to send something off every 3 or 4 hours with a "bell lap" on a few rides. Captain gets to pick their favorite ride and will get a tshirt or something special.

I'm envisioning a version of your traditional alley cat race; but a meta-checkpoint race, with each ride having a stamp. This way no one is racing anything but exhaustion.

I like this idea. Maybe plan/map the rides ahead of time so people can decide which rides they want to go on, or sit out, depending on their condition. If we had a central gathering place with booze and food (and a bathroom), then people could come and go on said rides. Peeps can participate at whatever level they feel so inclined, remembering that this will seperate the men and women from the leetle boyz n girlz.

Yes, this is the vision. Include a bunch of rollers and exercise-bikes so people can stay "on the clock" and we're money. I'm going to make nice with the Dead Babies, see if we can use their bat-cave as a hq.

I'm working on food and beer sponsors for home base. If anyone has a contact with a brewery it would expediate things. I'd like to get a keg, probably two.

I think I can help out in this department. Kim, the head brewer at Pike Place Brewery is an avid cyclist and if we can get them some promotion, maybe we can get a deal on some kegs. If not their beer is mighty tasty and it is close!

I have a set of rollers you can borrow.

BTW, Chris, you know all my kidding above is just that right? Watch out for traffic circles!

And, btw, don't you think it is time you updated your avatar?

PS, I hope you are feeling better.

I see that. You're a mechanic, fix it! HA!

You know, every week I say to myself, I'm going to ride this Thursday, and by the time I get off work, I get distracted by more work, hunger, exhaustion, or something else. What's the plan this week? Tofurkey Day? Ever try one of those? I'm thinking about picking one up this year. They don't simulate bones or anything do they? What about giblets? Fake giblets? Mmmmmm, tasty.

When I'm not mostly made of Carbon anymore, I'll change my avatar. I want it tattooed to my forarm, to remind myself to stay grounded and humble.

I'll hopefully have a website up by the end of the month so as to help with arranging corporate sponsorship, let's move on Kegs at that point. Thanks for the help with the connection.

My knee is marginally better. I'm pretty sure I just bruised and shocked the top of the joint. Everything works, but it's really sore and bruised. With some massage and icing it loosens up for short rides or walks. Probably nothing long-term damage, just another step closer to having my knee catastrophically fail.

Actually, you're mostly hydrogen, which would prevent grounding- And produce a spectacular fireball when you crash. Get well soon.

Except when said hydrogen is all bound up with oxygen. Mmmm... hydrogenated oxygen.

Okay bitches, now that tofurkey day is over, can we get an idea of where this is at?

Still not seeing any route ideas, itineraries, schedules or nothing! I don’t wanna spend by birthday weekend guessing WTF is going on, dang…Maybe it’s the rock climber in me that wants to review the route before he gets all the gear sorted and psyched out. We’ve got a little more than a month and I’m not certain what the fudge is happening.

Can one of your drunkin-fuckers post an update so we know the details…or if there are any?

I need to talk to the DB still about using the bat-cave. Aaron talked it up a little on the last Dead Baby ride, they just want to meet me and talk details. I'm thinking it shouldn't be a problem. I've talked to a DJ collective set of friends of mine and we should have some kickin' beats lined up, with plenty of available slots for more djs. Food & Kegs will be dealt with shortly, expect both to be available as part of the cover.

I have a few routes in mind and a couple ride leaders. More are highly welcome. I have the week between xmas and NYE off on vacation and will be doing much work at that point. I still need help with schwag, although I've put some feelers out that need to be followed up on.

Eventually I'll be taking a headcount of available rollers & stationary bikes so I can see what I have to scrounge up on my own. Like all things this will come together with more definte plans and info closer to the date

I'm sure we can put it to use. Don't make a special trip up there for it, but you know, if there is room in the truck...

Langston and planning crew,

After planning several races I have a few tips to pass on.
1. get the word out. You need flyers in every bike shop, on every rack, coffee house etc at least a month in advance. Look how big the messqurade ’05 was vs this year. ’05 had flyers 6 weeks before the event and it was really hyped up. This years turn out was very low. You don’t need all the details just yet, just a good flyer with the basics. Post online too.
2. schwag, formal emails work well to big companies. Include your shipping address. Don’t forget to include the location and date. Go to shops and talk to the man. Bars and coffee shops are another good source.
3. Food and beer. Talk to your bartender friends. They can at least get you kegs at cost. Give then lots of time! 4-6 weeks.
4. Be prepared to loose some money. I like to consider it a donation to the urban bike scene. Unfortunately these donations aren’t tax deductible.

But hands down, the most important thing is advertising. If they don’t know, they won’t come.

Also, squid racers are in there winter training mode. Flyers at the Pert’s and Starbucks in Leshi could be useful. ( the typical meeting spots for weekend rides).

Good luck!

Also, a waiver is a nice piece of security.

Alright!

I just talked to Aaron and the Bat-Cave is A GO! The hardest and potentially most expensive part is cleared with the best possible result.

I've gotten a price quote (which I can now accept, knowing I won't have to rent a space) on sound equipment and two djs already lined up to spin while you spin! I hope you bitches are ready.

The STP is a daytrip. RAMROD, that's hardcore.

This ride is ON, the website is waiting for me to provide some copy, prize shwag is underway and media blitz is scheduled for 12.27

what's on the flyer, and not the URL you used just above the flyer post?

Following up from a different thread:

I just placed holds on DVDs for Beijing Bicycle, The Bicycle Thief, and Breaking Away from the Seattle Public Library. Assuming my spot in the hold queue comes up before the 20th, I believe I can play the system well enough so that I'll have the DVDs in my possession the day of the event.

Someone who has a King County Library Card should look into getting Quicksilver (which KCLS has, but Seattle does not).

Apart from Rad (not available on DVD) and BMX Bandits, I'm not coming up with any more feature bicycle movies off the top of my head. IMDB lists quite a few movies with 'bike' and 'bicycle' in their title, the vast majority of which I've never heard of. Also, given the recent advances in digital film, I'm sure there are a bunch of recent documentaries on various bike-related topics (the NYC alleycat one, for example). But I don't have them and I don't know how to get a copy cheaply.
