Check out the EAI Bareknuckle frame! Hot! Hand made in Venezia, Italy. Business Cycles calls them "Nessuno" 'cause they're squids and fear the Hardcore apparently. At any rate we need to all join forces and see what can be done to order a few of these bad-boys at cost. Anyone have any connections? I'd like to swap out my Basso for something I can really beat the fuck out of.

Oh yeah, and they come in other colors and arrive logo-less!

If we can get a sweet deal on it, I would like one. I want a project-bike, to build and baby over the cold dark months.

Let's open our own frame shop and build our own bikes.

Seriously. It is my goal at my shop to have a frame shop. I have the space.

Anyone know how to use a torch? I have never learned.

after having my first fixie experience last week, i'm hell-bent to somehow get myself one. if we can get a good price on frames i'd try to get the scratch together and start from there.

62cm should be fine for me.

Welding classes arn't outrageously expensive, it takes about a year to get your certs and a lifetime to master. Like anything, I guess. They cffer them at SouthSCC too.

Both matt and I know how to weld (Seth too! thanks for fixing my frame BTW), and from the looks of things I'll be getting a welder real soon (couple of weeks probably). Unfortunately it'll be a lot better for welding tallbikes than high-quality frames... Then there's the jigs and learning how to do brazes...

Until then I'm more interested in tracking down a bare knuckle dealer who's down with a cheap purchase and isn't Counterbalance...

Who was the FSA rep that build his own frame, I forget his name, he rode with us a few times. It was a white steel lugged frame, with all FSA bits and Campy components. He was a taller guy, with glasses.

I am seriously going to open a frame shop within 3-5 years, but I need someone to help. Just getting the word out.

Is Counter Balance a dealer? If so, I probably could not get a dealership and to hook-up my buddies would be very bad form in the bicycle industry. I would be stepping on a lot of toes. But if CB is not a dealer and there is not a local dealer, then perhaps I could get a dealership and sell them. The deal for me for giving ya'll a deal would be to have ya'll spread good love about my shop (promote it) i.e. you scratch my back, I scratch yours.
Find-out and get me the company info and I will pursue it.

Thanks to all the Point 83ers that have given me the business lately.

Jake, Derrick, Are you interested in making my shop an official sponsoring shop?

The official deal is: 20% off Parts and Accessories (special orders included). Must pay with cash, check or debit card and must present your Point 83 spoke card or know that I know that you have one. Labor is not discounted. Hey I gotta make a living! However, bringing beer is always good form and makes me forget how much I should charge you for labor! (I like IPA and Stout, If you bring me PBR, I charge you double.)

Aaron, I appreciate your offer. Really I do. I also like how you've stepped forward to offer so many deals to the .83 people without even being asked. Also really fucking cool. I, however, am against .83 having an official shop. I don't want one. The reality is that with our group being such a conglomeration of all different people from different places that many of us have deals we can get through many different shops. Some of them better than what you offer, some of them on different parts. To accept any one of them as an official shop would be to deny ourselves access (as a community) to all of those other opportunities. Additionally it's not entirely logical (in my personal opinion) for a west seattle shop to be the official sponsor for so many people who are up in north seattle. I don't totally know what everyone else thinks, but I'd rather leave things the way they are.

You're welcome to reccomend people come to your shop as much as you'd like though, and if you're willing to offer deals to people who happen to be .83 then that's great, but again I'm against .83 having an official shop at all. I just think that's not our style.

Bear in mind that i say all of this with the utmost respect for you and your business, and mean no offense.

Additionally, yes, Counterbalance IS an authorized dealer for the Bare Knuckle frame, and likely have at least one on their shelves right now.

i dig the discounts that aaron throws around too. if i wasnt so far from west seattle id probably stop in and shop there some more

as it is now i have a bike shop 2 doors down from me at work, and i live right next to recycled cycles, on top of that i shop on ebay alot... im just not near west seattle enough to come stop in there unfortunately. soon ill need some fixie parts and im planning on swinging down there though to see what we can do

but overall, i dont think we need an "official" shop.

we are organized on the web, have semi organized races and stuff, but above all that we're mainly just "small group of friends that likes to ride bikes around town"..

:)

I understand, No offense taken, no problem. I will still offer my "un-official" discount to all spoke card holders. Point 83 has made me very excited about riding like I used to so ya'll deserve it.

Looking forward to the Thursday ride!

Adam is actually a friend of mine. Then again I am not his customer, just a peer. I always thought his shop was cool. I have hung our there often and always get offered a beer. We see eye to eye on a lot of things. I am sure his heart is in the right spot even if his maners need improving. I bet if he knew some of you thought he was an asshole, he would change his ways. I know I did (do often). I cannot be all things to all customers and sometimes piss people off. I try to be nice but I know that somepeople think I am a jerk. Usually it is the impatient people. But sometimes people just rub eachother the wrong way. (It would be pretty boring if we all loved eachother). Ying-Yang.

So I suggest that you approach Adam with your offer. I know if I could get 5 or 10 people out on a bike I sell, I would consider giving a bulk deal. Again, it kind of boils down to sponsorship. Trek and Nike expect lots of press from Lance Armstrong. They don't do it because it is cool. They do it for the money and the publicity. Same would hold true of anyone that gives you a deal. You recommend them to others that ask you where you got your bike.

I know a lot of you get deals from Recycled Cycles and you all talk highly of them. That is cool. Josh is my bro, there, say high for me.

Adam should know that the more bikes he gets out there, the more he will sell. Fixed and Single Speed is really taking off! Eveyone wants one. I get 2 or 3 people a week just this summer (not including .83 folk). Last year I got zero.

Counter Ballance started out catering to the messengers and I know there is an elitist attitude among the messengers. A we are too cool for society image. Point 83 is quite the opposite of that. But we do fuck with cars, love that! (Jason, Joby)

Give Adam another chance, or not, but I cannot get the dealership with another shop so close. However, if you do approach Adam and he is not a savy business man and take the offer, get back to me. After all it is all just business, but I like to be nice about it.

On a side note. I was guaranteed by Rivendell an exclusive Seattle area Atlantis dealership by Grant Peterson (owner of Rivendell) when I signed up. Then when he was in Japan on business his employee opened up Elliott Bay Bicycles. That hurt my business and created bad feelings all around. Don't want a repeat.

It's probably better for you if you're unofficial too, right? I mean, it wouldn't look good for your shop to see a kid with .83 patches tearing through down town traffic and red lights, and when we do thigns like pirate offical events and stuff, that probably wouldn't be very good for your shop either..

I can weld, braze and solder.. so when you get your frame shop set up I'd love to come hang out and possably build a frame! Tha'd be sweet.
In the meantime, I'm all for trying to get a hook up on a sweet frame!

I want the pink one so that I can stencle "Trendy as fuck" on the down tube. Doesn't get more trendy than a pink fixed gear with a Dean on top, does it?

I personally don't think Adam is an asshole, and I've enjoyed my experience there (counterbalance). They did a great job helping me build up my Basso. Really I don't think there is a single shop in seattle that aren't elitist biker fuckwads from time to time. Some worse than others... At any rate what I'm really looking for is "someone who knows someone" kind of thing. Not for an official business transaction if you know what i mean. I'm all about the connections.
