Well, not really. But I was in N.O. last week with my wife, and took crappy pictures of a couple of bikes I thought you folks might want to see:
I was in New Orleans two years ago, and my impression is that the bike population has greatly increased, probably because (a) fewer people = fewer cars = more people willing to bike; (b) a lot of the contractors/subcontractors are willing to use bikes as transportation to save money. A lot of the work is concentrated in a relatively small, flat, area, so you don't have to be a super biker to get around town.

New Orleans is just a great big asshole disguised as a city. Our big mistake was repairing the levees.

I could make some snide retort, but I'm too filled with love from playing a game with a cute, jumping snowman.

I'd been in N.O. before Katrina and it was a shithole. I was in N.O. immediately after Katrina and it was an only slightly worse shithole.
Can I get a witness from SPC Sean? He was there just after I left.
Leveling any of the following places would make the world a better place:
1) Manta, Ecuador
2) Marseilles, France
3) St. Cyr sur Mer, France
4) Subic City, Philippines
5) New Orleans
6) Stockton, CA
7) Oklahoma (Oklahoma is an old Comanche word for godforsaken asshole)
8) Norfolk, VA
9) Georgia (If georgia didn't suck so bad, Florida would fall clean off the map...)

I fail to see what this has to do with cute, jumping snowmen.

Erm...it only just occurred to me that "I'm Bikin' to New Orleans" might be a Fats Domino reference (I'm Walkin' to New Orleans). Did I get it?

Well, yeah.
Although I probably should have said "I'm Bikin' in New Orleans", since some people might click on the thread thinking they're going to get pictures of some cross-country trek, instead of just a couple of crappy photos of bikes locked to poles.

I guessed there could be, but there's also some charm in letting mistakes live on for posterity. Besides, if it took Uncle Martha this long to catch on to the Fats Domino reference, who knows how confused people would be if I changed it some more?
Anyhoo...
Per a promise we made to ourselves in N.O., I just made a charitable donation to The New Orleans Community Bike Project, which you can find at
