ever since i started riding earlier this year, i've been finding that once i hit about 25 miles or so, i'm starting to get a numbness in the toes on my left foot. it's happened with multiple shoes and pedal setups (platforms, cages, clipless) so i'm pretty sure it's not based on that. i find that if i stop and stretch my leg out for a few seconds it goes away, but then comes back after a few more minutes of riding.
any idea what could cause something like that? do i just have stupidly poor circulation?

1st if you have ruled out shoe problems. look at your bike fit. are you bent at the hips? this can cause a lot of pressure on your lower back muscles and pinch some of your lower lumbar/sacral nerves. does it only happen when you ride? what about sitting in a chair? stretching and keeping loose can help, but look at your shoes again too, i have to loosen mine up after 25miles or so. your feet will tend to swell. if is a real problem, look into it more. if it just there, deal with it. when i ride/race all sorts of stuff goes numb, some Really Important Parts too! the only thing i would worry about is if it does not resolve after you get off the bike( know that this is a sliding scale, 25 miles, better in 3-4 minutes, 100 miles, better in 6-7 min.) or if your hand go numb, that’s a little more of a problem. someone once told me the best racer is not necessarily the strongest rider, its who can suffer longer. if you want to chat about this, send me a message.

like i said, as soon as i stop and stretch out for a few seconds it goes away, which is why i'm not super concerned. i never have problems with my hands (and i practiced "playing the piano while riding" last night and found it did make a difference in my shoulders and neck, too).
i didn't think about stopping to loosen my shoes, though. I'll give that a shot and see if that makes a difference. tx.

SPD pedals tend to make my feet go numb, Look's havent done that yet, they have a much bigger surface area and dont put pressure on one spot.
6-7 minutes after a hundred miles? i wish (in my case). after the STP this year i couldnt feel most of my pinky for about 3 days. yay compressed nerves! eventually all came back though
when i do long rides, i try to do my best to stretch out different parts regularly. shake the hands out when you start to feel the numbness. a really good shake to throw the blood back in there. ive also been getting more and more padding in my gloves that i buy.

the piano trick could help you too derick. try to wiggle your fingers often, this keeps you from holding on with a death grip. thus keeps you shoulders and neck loose. if your hands are loose, eveything else will follow.

Over the years we have solved people's numb feet problems by moving the cleats back 1cm. A RAD is also recommended.
Bars with many hand positions help numb hands. Good gloves of course and perhaps gel padding under your bar tape.

Cinelli Gel Cork Bar Tape
Insead of sticky shit under the tape it has a row of gel- way more comfortable & you can actually re-use it if you get new bars at some point.
Specialized makes something called Phat Wrap or such but I haven't tried it- kinda looks TOO thick... like horse cock.

Yeah, the Cinelli Bar tape is really good and you can wrap it extra fat on top.
We stock it but West Seattle is just way to fucking far away, so get it at SuperGo.
