How grueling are these rides? I'm kinda out of shape and a bit worried about over-doing it (on my fixie, my ONLY bike).

It's the Bainbridge Island loop. Tens of thousands of weekend warriors ride it every year, not counting Chilly Hilly weekend. I'm pretty sure the course even cuts out a hill or two (I don't think they take Toe Jam Hill, for example).
In short, even though I don't know you, I think you can ride it. Particularly if you're willing to push your bike up the hills.

i just talked to justin (who handled it last year).. he's too busy this year and is handing it off to me to man handle.
im going to put all the details together and start a new thread for it in a few days.
im hoping to ride it (will be my 3rd year), if anyone wants to volunteer to be the finish line chili warmer and "wait around for riders to come in" person, that would be fantastical. ill handle the bib printing, pricing, prizes and all that.

This sounds like a mission for the support crews (spouses and GFs) It would be a way for them to be involved with a ride without the saddle sores.

our meet up point is going to be on the seattle side of the ferry. we'll go over together as a group, then shoot out all at once.
our end point was down on the docks by the marina on the boardwalk. probably going to be the same this year. ill try to get directions to the end point so we dont have as much confusion as last year. it's a little hidden.

if i recall correctly. this is where we ate last time. it was nice, but we had fortunate weather. it would have been tres shitty if it'd been raining since there's no shelter there.
last time justin made two huge pots of chili and brought them in my trailer to reheat on a coleman while ya'll did the race.
some old dudes thought we were itinerant wanderers, bicycle hobos if you were. that was probably because justin looked like warmed death and was sleeping soundly on the dock.

I have been known to make a bitchin' vegan chili and I will be bringing my tall bike Xtracycle so I could bring some stuff.

Friday. Bring your bike by Friday unless we call you earlier. Do you want to borrow a rental? They are basic MTBs but they work. Also, I am sure someone else here has a bike you could borrow.

Rental: maybe. In all honesty, the lack of a ridable bike has been inspiring all manner of thoughts about getting a new (read: second) bike for just these occasions (hence the Kirk thread in W&G). I've also considered buying a 60cm Bareknuckle frame to build up, but I'll have to check the geometry and I've lost or misplaced the "Performance Version" of my fit (vs the "Comfort Version"). Additionally, I don't know if the Bareknuckle is burly enough for me et cetera ad nauseam.
If somebody has a large-frame bike that you don't mind a 250+ lbs., 6'4" sweaty guy riding for the next few days, do let me know.

33 miles of hills, drunk, at the standard pointhomodateythree pace...that sounds almost as much fun as the 24 hours of where-the-fuck-are-we?!?
seriously...count the triker in...and I have a burley trailer so I can haul a cooler full of beer or food in if necessary. I might even bring some newly acquired tuneage for the trip as well!
