I like how they say "Healthy" Mex food. Healthy as in fat!
Let's make this an epic ride. Andre, plan a route? We are going to need some miles before we eat!

I already have a route for Thursday in mind. It has Hippy and Admin pre-approval. We did a little scouting on the weekend and I chalked something up. It'll be a pretty epic route and will take us some new places and some places we have not been for a while. As for Gordito's, that stop may not work into this ride but food/beverage/fire stops are included in the route I have planned.
Consider this fair warning that Thursday attendees MAY want to chose to ride a bike with gears, bigger tires and a head light you see reasonably well by when there are no other lights out. If all you have is a track bike with 23mm tires and 81 Gear inches you will be able to survive but that may not be the best choice. Having a headlight will be the most important thing, but you should already have one so you are visible and not liable if you get hit at night!!!

what's a reasonably good light that doesn't require a backpack battery system? Something I can pick up locally ideally.

Langston has it as well. It is a 1 watt LED spot light, runs off 3 AAA batteries. It comes with a helmet and handle bar mount.
Indeed a solid and decent light. Mine got a little water sogged or damaged and the switch is finicky now, but it works, is bright and is light enough to have on top of my helmet and not notice. The helmet strap sucked, I used an ankle strap and looped it into the helmet

yeah I'm thinking about coming out for this adventure. That light looks good. Any idea where I can pick it up in town?

Ah their fancy web page lists REI and 2nd ascent. I could stop by REI on my way home tonight.
6 hours on 3 batteries sheesh. Makes me wish I had my generator hub on the bike I'll be riding.

buy two packs of recharables (and a recharger). They do indeed suck light but it's bright enough to be worth it.

Call REI before you do, I believe they sell the camp headlight but I could not find the bikelight version last time I was there.
Tonight looks like a great night to ride. Sadly I need to stay by a computer this week to make sure Lee's porn connection at work doesn't go down.

I just happen to stock all of the brands and models of generator front hubs. Schmidt, Shimano and Sturmey Archer!
It will be good to see you James!
For those of you that don't have lights you can stick by me. My Down Low Glow neon system is good to dragging 5 or 6 folks along with me. I remember getting several of you into Carkeek park one night.
The king of handlebar mounted LED lights is the Bush & Muller Ixon. I stock it as well.

Damn! I just put my Volpe away for the next three months, looks like I'm riding my fixed gear. Although it is at about 62 gear inches with a 28 up front and 32 in back.
This will be my last ride for at least the next three months.

Well the trip to REi was a bust -- the eos that they had was the headband model.
Aaron, what are the odds you could bring one of those lights to the ride and I could write you a check or give you cash for it? I will not hate you if you say no.

There are 2 models to choose from. With Rechargeable batteries and a charge $139.99, With a recharger only, no batteries $119.99, and Light only, no charger or batteries $99.99. All prices plus 8.8% tax. All variations are of the same light head, the Ixon and all can run on 4 regular AA alkaline batteries. Run time is in 6-14 hours depending on the setting.
Call me at the shop on Thursday. Or call the shop on Wednesday and speak to Gregg.
A check is fine.

Yes, aaron you down low glow will be great for helping others see. That reminds me, Trevor do you have a 'real' bike? If you are coming out your trike may not do so hot on this ride.
Gregas, are you talking your blue fixed gear? That will be fine for the ride. I will probably be rolling on my 60 GI single speed.

ouch, I'm gonna have to pass on that light. I'll go buy another light this evening like the one i have. If that's not enough light then I'll ride blind like Flash Gordon.

A "real" bike???
LOL
Thanks for the warning about the ride route...ill hook up Fri night for CM or the GL races.
Alas, no...I dont have the funds to get anything else for awhile...not to mention I need to get my womans bike built before I get something else for myself. I do have my eye on a sweet 20 inch cruiser from Revolution...possible xtra-cycle material.

Trevor,
You should come out to my shop and borrow one from my stable. Then ride back to town with Andre, Gregg and I.
Andre, meet you at the bridge? 6:45ish?

I have been hearing some grumbling from our fixed (neutered and spayed?) brothers and sisters about the no fixie suggestion.
I just want to say that let's not forget to not leave anyone behind. It is important to me that we stay as a group, especially in unfamilliar territory. And we want to be all SNAG and not make anyone feel unwelcome. Exept for Dean and Henry.

Grumbling?, If you have a concern feel free to post a question or PM me but you are going to have to give me a little more credit. I try to come up with a ride occasionally that takes us new places and optimizes fun routes and has thought out destinations. The only person I would suggest that doesn't come is someone who can't enjoy a little mystery and sit back and follow for a while. I posted a suggestion that IF someone has access to multiple bikes they MAY want to choose something other than a fixie, though bringing a fixie would not be likened to bringing a knife to a gun fight in this case. This route has been ridden by roadbikes, fixies, single speeds, boys and girls, you can do it!!. If you ride a fixie you already know that some climbs are really tiring, even if you make it to the top first!!. It is not my intention to make these rides exclusive. The only person I singled out was Trevor because the route has some narrow spots and his trike may not fit. Trevor, it would be great if you could make it out and borrow a 2-wheeler for the night. We will have multiple stops that will allow people to group up, at least 3 people know the route and will be able to keep the group together. I enjoy giving a route and specific stops some thought and I hope as many people come out and enjoy the ride as possible.
Aaron and Greg (and Ben?), yes I will see you at the bridge around 6:45.

I intend to come on the ride, anyway (unless my afore-mentioned crank issues keep me from doing so).

I ain't afraid a no ghost!
I'm going to be there for this ride, and if I break in half or something and my legs no longer have the rest of my body to make them push my bike around, well I'll just have to drag myself the rest of the way with my arms. I hope that doesn't happen though, because they're not used to that sort of exertion, and it would probably be a lot harder than biking.
My explanation of Mr. Ball's modus operandi: No asshole left behind.

No, I've omitted posting the route map ahead ove time intentionally. I'll summarize it at WLC tonight. We have been on 75% of the ride before.

It would be a bit like the Viet Cong transporting supplies via bicycle along the Ho Chi Mihn Trail but it could be probably be done. You know the hills that keg would have to be hauled up and the narrow spots. The trailer could help haul some wood for a fire though. The keg/fire stop would be at the half way point.

so, yes. I'll help carry it up the hard parts. Lee, if you can meet me at my house with your trailer we can get 'er done. I'll be home by 6:15.

As the President of .83 Silver, I decree that if us old farts can do this ride, you young rascals sure can. The President of .83 and I had a phone conference. He revealed the route to me. I know this route well. All of you kids can make it. That goes for Trevor and Lee with Beer trailer. The hardest part will require a portage, but it is not impossible. It will be fun! We might want to disguise the keg. Make it look like a dead body. That way the cops will leave us alone!
And the grumbling was coming from the young skinny tired folk.

Thanks A...really. i'll remember that in the future.
As it turns out today is completly fubar'd for me...narrowly missed being run over on LCW last night by a red light runner, and decided to stick my shoe cleats into my monster chainring and FD to stop quicker...thus averting a free tread check for said racer and destroying my chainring and front derailer.
If I can get it fixed tomorrow i may see you fuckers at CM or the GL races...or maybe not.
Anyway, i'm at the mercy of the womantaxi, and will be at work till after 10 pm..no bikey borrowing today.
