As I was turning on to Fairview on my way to Westlake yesterday, I lost traction and crashed pretty hard. I dislocated my ankle, tore a bunch of ligaments, and broke two bones in three places. Fortunately I was riding with my brother, and so he went back home and grabbed a vehicle and we drove to the UW emergency room.
They knocked me out, relocated my ankle, kept me overnight in case any blood vessels were fucked up and I needed immediate surgery. Then they ordered me to go back home and lie on my back for a week with my foot elevated. On Friday I go back so they can take it apart, staple ligaments back together, and reconstruct the bones with some titanium.
Anyone want to visit me?
There's a good possibility that the reason I lost traction was because my pedal hit the asphalt and lifted my rear tire (I do remember my rear tire slipping first). I think that is the last time I ride fixed. I'm switching to SS. My ankle will be fucked up enough that I won't be able to track skid anyway.

Oh man! That sucks so bad! Pedal strike is killer.. I've only gone down once from it, on a BMX, in a parking garage.. I ended up jamed under the rear of a car and my bike kind of bounced around between that car and a mini van.. fucked up the sides of both of them. I was young and careless then and I just grabbed my bike and got the hell out of there! I was fine, I'm really sorry to hear you're not.. that's horrible.
Get better soon. :\

At my apartment.
It's on the ave, accross from Galway's. I can PM or email the address. Don't worry about what time, I'm going to be here for exactly 24-7 until next Friday.

Clearly you're on drugs to invite these people to your home. I, as well, am out of town for the entire week, but would totally come visit, perhaps with flowers? So sorry to hear it, I've had pedal strike on my fixie once or twice, but never with such dire consequences. Good luck on the recovery, hope to see you out there soon.

Man I'm really sorry to hear that.
We should form a church-style food thing where we bring caseroles to cheer you up.
I call tuna!
If there is anything we can do, you know you can count on us.

Seriously, I'll bring you some booze too, as long as it doesn't kill you.
Here's hoping for a fast recovery! And other bullshit people say to people when they really can't help but they don't like getting shitty get well cards!

Sorry to hear, Abe. I wasn't sure who you were until Scottie mentioned your name here. Injuries suck ass. I hope you're staying comfortable. I'll stop by with some cheap beer soon. It will be just like the finish of a normal Thursday ride.

Ouch dude! Get well soon.
Really sorry you got hurt. I can totally empathize with you. I have crashed so many times in my life. I do like alcohol for pain. The best. Sounds like Point 83 has you covered there. Wait, you are only 20 right? Shucks, no booze for you. Just kidding. You better get laid from this injury!

Thanks for coming over. Come back again.
Food is always good :). If I don't eat it right away, I can eat it when my roommate splits and neglects to make me anything.
