Whereas: The Starbucks to Boundary Bay century was awesome.
and Whereas: I'm tired of getting slowly fatter all winter.
but Whereas: I like to eat.

I propose: the Brunch in Port Townsend Century on Saturday, Feb 10th. The route would take us to Edmonds, across to Kingston, and up over the Hood Canal for brunch in your favorite dive in PT. Then we'll cross Admiralty Bay to Whidbey Island, then down to the Clinton ferry, up Mukilteo and a quick ride town 99 to Seattle. That's about 100 miles.

Weather permitting, of course.

It has been decreed that it will not rain in Western Washington forevermore. Well, at least not until next week. Probably.

Seriously, I might do this, but I have frisbee every Saturday in February.

Anything specific preventing this from taking place on Feb 3rd? or just a preference?

I just figured two weeks was a good gap between centuries. It takes the whole damn day, after all.

Hmmm, I might be up for this. I'm probably going to be out in Port Angeles this weekend, so next weekend would be much better for me.

I'm down for the 10th. Hood Canal is a terrible ride, but there arn't many other options. Coming back from Everett there is the Interurban, which runs efficiently between Everett & Shoreline along I-5.

It would be really nice to drop these every other week or so up until Mason Lake, and then roll out Team83

Yeah that might be fun. I could handle a long day's ride every couple of weeks. What's Mason Lake?

Yep, I'm still full-go.

Let's meet somewhere in the U District at 7 ay-em Saturday; though I don't know what's open then. We'll ride toward PT via Edmonds, across to Whidbey, and back via Mukileo. Miles pointed out that we'll be doing plenty of standing around waiting for and being on ferries, so we might want to demote brunch to a quick stop at a snackshop in PT for the sake of keeping our average pace up.

We might end the trip riding in the dark in 99, so bring some bright fuckin' blinkers.

--==--

Oh man imagine if we were a bike club out of, I dunno, Dallas. "Hey let's ride for a hun'red miles on the highway looking at scrub brush". Ferries, mountains, islands, yes thank you very much.

Can we go another way north than directly up 99? I really don't enjoy that stretch, the road is full of holes & gravel and the traffic makes me jumpy. I know a pretty good route that for the most part follows the Interurban, and gets to Shoreline by way of Greenlake/Northgate/Roosevelt/5th NE to MtLkT/ interurban to Everett, with a few shortcuts to avoid cutting the freeway.
Going home 99 is fine.

Yeah that's fine except we won't be going north on 99, we'll be coming back southward.

Something like this:

As you can see, I haven't settled on an exact route. I understand the coastal route up to PT is pretty, but hilly.

ooh. duh. I've driven it plenty of times, hilly and nice the whole way. Nice warm up for the Chilly Hilly.

I'm down for Saturday. I've been pissed at not going on very many long rides this winter, and I'd like to keep the Bellingham momentum going. I put in 60 miles on Sunday as well, so this would be the 3rd weekend in a row of real riding.

Hooray Team83!

When/where are we meeting?

For some reason I thought this was a Sunday ride.

Hmm, I'm still planning on going, though now I have to check my schedule again.

Seattle to Pt. Townsend (and the boys of .83) being my favorite ride, goddamnit I want to do this. But alas, I will be in surgery the day before and although I have ridden against doctor's orders on numerous long-ass rides before, this would be too crazy even for me.

Let's do this again in the spring, say May?

You are not allowed to come. You can ride the boys of point83 later.

Oh man that place depresses me. And the last thing I need at seven in the morning is a place that depresses me. Is Blue Dog open that early on Saturday?

They open at 9am on weekends, apparently.

Both Zoka's are open at 6am on Saturdays (which is probably why a bunch of bike clubs start rides at UZ):

Because it's uphill to sea level from there.

At this rate, U Village will be thought of as the depths of hell in no time.

Which come to think of it, is about right.

Hey Bob bring your sister; she's a treat.

Sorry, but like I said before, I have a frisbee game. I just thought I'd help. Have a good ride.

For future reference, Cafe Allegro is also open early enough: 6:30am on Saturday, according to Citysearch.

Could it be? That this is the best century ride ever?

Yeah I'm coming. I've gotten three flats in the last week, so hopefully all my shitty luck is getting used up.

Seriously, you are living up to "Delayer" status. Were these all on the fixie? Didn't you have 2 flats on the ride out to the ABR wrench party a little bit ago as well?

only 2 were on that bike. I need to do some work figuring out a better tire/wheel combo or just get new wheels so I can run a reasonable tire pressure without blowing the tires off the rim.

maybe you did this already and this statement should go without saying. . . but did you check to see if there are any big holes in your tire that are pinching your tubes? is your tire just thin and easily penetrated by road glass etc? i was getting a lot of flats a while ago, i changed my rear tire, and i didn't really have problems anymore.
