I propose that the second annual point83 Waffle ride be held this Thursday. I know it hasn't been quite a year, but key staff members will be absent next month.

I know a good spot, and I have 4 waffle irons.

Who wants to help out with Batter, beverages, etc?

I'm in for whatever we need. Is the location the same as last year?

can you bring ready-to-use waffle batter?
Yes, same location as last year.

If Scottie comes, we're totally riding to Bellevue.

Last year we had power strips too. Extension cords?

Need any other waffle irons? I brung mine lastest year and it did no get the use.

Oh, and fuck water! PBR makes some delicious waffle but I remember random chicken eggs and stout (whole wheat vegan, of course).

Damn I am hungry!

The weather be damned! Since when has that weather eve stopped us? I will bring my Whisperlite. It is good for boiling water and heating your hands. Fun times!

This is going to be a little slower than normal ride because we are all bringing gear.

Fuel up stop at the QFC on Mercer, or better yet at Uwajimaya? I bet they have some crazy Asian waffle mix.

just as long as the strawberries don't fall into the coffee with beer, ginger-root, and whipped cream, and as long as somebody [aaron?] doesn't eat two of the strawberries again.

also, for those who don't know, the waffle-ride last year cost me nearly $10,000 in medical bills, haha. turns out due to the weather conditions of riding across the bridge last year that i had strained some muscles by my heart, so i had been feeling chest pains all week long thinking it was my heart., finally i had to call 911 during work which landed me a nice hospital bill.

I was planning on making batter first and just bringing it. Any reason why I shouldn't do this?

yes. the reaction time of the baking powder/soda with the liquids (dairy, beer, whatever...) is specific. and, the batter should usually be stirred, and i fear your ride style would make it frothy and too dumb!

I made batter from scratch last year. Eggs from my chickens, whole wheat organic flour, the whole bit. However, they were consumed fast! We ended up making a lot of Bisquick and PBR. There are pics here somewhere. I don't remember eating all the strawberries. Then again, that was a year a go. I vote instant mix with beer.

We can even get wheat free vegan mix!

All batter options are good.

Ready-to-go stuff for the hungry impatent people. Fancy fresh-prepaired mix for the gastronomes. Crustez and PBR for when we run out of everything else.

I've got irons and cords covered.
Derricks' got plates & forks
Molly's got Maple syrup and butter
SeditiousCanary has one batch of batter

We need:
More toppings
Coffee/Tea equipment and ingredients
canola oil
napkins
Lanterns
*lots* more batter

And already accounted for as I was going to add that once we got there and have a final "mix". I'm just saying my delivery method is brilliant and well planned.

Any other objections?

can we add crepes? I have two crescent fresh crepe pans and a buckwheat batter recipe that will kill all of you. all I need is fire.

and crepe batter is better after it's sat around for at least 24 hours.

Not to start a gear war, but I disagree. Whisperlites are tiny, carry much more fuel- a full bottle will last two weeks in the bush, create zero waste besides exhaust, provide an even and controllable flame and are hotter than alcohol.

I smell a burn off cooking.

With all these extra BTU's can we cook up some brown and serve sausage while we are out there.

i know you love them.. but i gotta prove you a little wrong

whisperlite weight 11 oz.
the stove above (vargo triad) 1 oz (and thats a heavy weight for alcohol stove)
weight. alcohol stove wins

dimensions (tinyness) the alcohol wins hands down. it fits in my cookpot with tons of room to spare. by comparison, the whisperlite is horse sized. (ill bring mine on thursday)

both create zero waste. the stove above has zero parts to go wrong with it, it's all one solid unit. while the whisperlite has only a few serviceable parts, it does have more to go wrong with it in the field

the whisperlite doesnt carry more fuel, im not even sure what you mean by that. i can bring as much alcohol as i want in whatever sized canister i want. and while a whisperlite is restricted to one style pressurized fuel bottle and line system, i can carry fuel in any type of closed top canister i have.

an alcohol cant simmer for endless amounts of time, no, as it's limited to as much fuel as you put in the pan... it does heat up to boiling just as quick. and when you think about it, you really just want to get your food up to temperature quickly then turn it off anyways dontcha? an extended simmer just ends up wasting fuel for a long time.

ill bring mine, you bring yours. we can do a water boil contest. you might be right on the burns hotter side of things which could give the whisperlite a quicker boil time.. but im ok with that. i just saved 10oz in weight and tons of space in my pack :)

gear war ON!

we should do a test to see who can go from "gear in bag" to "boiling water" quicker.
