So it's getting to the point where I need a camera. I have a Nikon coolpix that I dropped a while back and it don't work right no more.
I want to purchase a new camera but I have one problem. None of the digital cameras I know of are capable of taking pictures right when you press the button. There's always the delay. I hate the delay. It ends up taking a picture you didn't want to take.
Does anyone know if they make digi cams that don't do this? Or is it the same old story of the processor having to work?

My canon A75 isn't bad, you have to press the button down half way to let the camera focus, which takes about 1 second, then you can hold it until you're ready and snap it right away, maybe a 0.1 second delay at that point.
Videos will be up in a while...

My olympus does that to. Not too bad if you've got the shutter button in the half-way position. The thing that really kills me is the boot time. It can take 5 seconds to turn a camera on. Argh.

The Fuji A310 I just "scored" is much better than the camera I was borrowing in this time-lag aspect.

The shutter lag and the boot up time are pretty universal problem with Point and Shoot digitals. Not sure of the best ones but as soon as you get to the SLR digitals the design they are pretty good about eliminating shutter lag, the down side being these are bigger cameras and the don't take video but they take better still frame pictures and are better for actionn

I hate but love digital cameras. It is like they have a commodore 64 brain inside but with a bionic "eye".

Yeah, it's a problem with my Canon A85. The thing is, it's got certain features that, for me, make up for the lag. I found that there was something of a tradeoff. This series goes pretty much fully manual, which most cameras in its price range don't. I dunno. You chould check out the reviews on cNet, every review specifically addresses shutter lag. And you can compare different cameras side by side in a given price range, number of megapixels, etc.

I really wanted to make it out, but I was seriously trashed by the insane time I spent in transit over the last couple of weeks. I decided to take a nap at 8pm and it ended at like, 7am. No Olympia for me, boo hoo.
I'll be out and in effect on Thursday with a big bottle of something delicious to maybe spill on Joby's phone later in the evening. Hopefully I'll have my friend Maren in tow as well.

that's okay, the "mar" in maren rhymes with "star" so we're not going to be contributing to the apparently widespread confusion.

two Mikes? This is why we're referring to the other as ponchoMike (my personal fav) but also as jerseyMike.
I suppose the designator of dickface could just be applied to me, but I'd be sad. . .
