I noticed once that bike cops never lock up their bikes outside shops: they just flip the kickstand like a big middle-finger to downtown bike thieves and leave them with impunity. I asked onea the cops once why they don't lock them up. "Woe be unto him who steals a bike cop's bike," he basically said.

It takes a lot of gear to triangulate signals, especially weak ones from handheld devices. Anyway, if the fool is smart -- tho' clearly he isn't -- he'd have ditched the blackberry down the sewer as soon as he found it.
I have to say, I've always been interested to know what the cops keep in their saddlebags. But not interested enough to pinch one.
